  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I thought I would share with you the following.

On my PC programs under the accessories, system tools tab I have disc cleanup. I used to use this quite a lot followed by disc defragmenter to clear up old files and speed up my machine.

I have recently discovered a free download that appears to carry out the task more comprehensibly. It is called CCleaner and can be downloaded free at download.cnet.com. I have downloaded other cleaners in the past but this seems to work the best.

It also has the optional additional facility to clean-up the free space on your machine, although this function takes over an hour to carry out.

Unlike other free cleaners I have used it does not infect your machine with irritating pop-ups asking you to upgrade to a premium account.

I hope you find the above useful.

Have used ccleaner in the past, and it worked okay. I also like BleachBit, which performs a similar function. it's free and open source software. I use it on my Linux computers. There is a Windows version also. bleachbit.sourceforge.net

I too have been using CCleaner for years. It's good. As for defragging my disk, though, I have Windows do that on a regular schedule.
Check out Defraggler. It's made by the same people who make Ccleaner and does a MUCH better job at defragging a drive.

Thanks. I've looked at Defraggler in the past and decided that it's probably best to let the maker of the File System be the one fooling around with moving and re-linking disk blocks. I realize, though, that Microsoft is far from perfect, so maybe I'll give Defraggler another look.

Ccleaner does a great job. I also like Wise Registry cleaner.
I've avoided Registry cleaners. Perhaps I'm too conservative, but (1) I don't see them making much of a performance difference, and (2) if there's a bug in a Registry cleaner, my system could easily end up totally inoperable.
