  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ask me anything. Personal. Spiritual. etc. =)

A little back ground if you are interested. :p

I am an Asian and my family came from a Buddhist background. My parents weren't strong believers of Buddhism. More sort of like "I gave Buddha incenses and give the temple money. Now I will have good luck!" that kind of thing.

I had seen ghostly things when I was young. Often I would see "people" that disappear within a second, both inside my apartment and out in the garden below. However I rarely see them when I was outside the area of my apartment. These stop showing up once I moved to North America. However to this day I have no idea if they were my imagination or real.

Other than that I had seen a "black figure" once. I was in my apartment and I saw it on the street below. It appeared for a whole 30 seconds or more before disappearing around the corner of the street. There is no way it was a dog or a cat.

When I came to North America at 11 years old my parents sent me to Sunday School because they want free English Lessons for me. That's how I got into contact with Christianity.

When I was about 16 I decided to pick a religion. I assumed that all the gods out there are equally real. Which one should I follow? I decided to follow Jesus because he is the most loving God of all. No other God would allow people to humiliate him and all he said was "Father forgive them, for they don't know what they are doing."

My faith was shallow however. The sermons in my old church were not really applicable to my life. So come university I lost my faith to Atheism and evolution, even as I was still going to church for a while. God doesn't feel relevant to my life at that point.

After university I was working in a phone survey job. The job was very boring. But the benefit of this job is not everyone will be willing to answer a survey on the phone. So for long periods of time I am allowed to read. One of the books I read was A Case for Christ from Lee Strobel. The book was instrumental to bringing me back to faith. It is kind of funny that I got that book for free from a Christian organization. And now I don't even remember what that organization is.

I switch from my old church to an Alliance Church about 2 years ago. I find its sermons applicable and filled with insights.

I drive an hour to work every day. However I get to listen to many sermons and my spiritual maturity grew.

I now know that the whole law can be summed up in 3 things:

Love God in your current situation today.
Love yourself as you are today.
Love others as they are today.

I was single for a very long time. But that was God shielding me from harm when my faith was weak. I met my first ever GF when I was 31 years old, last year. Now I am dating my second ever GF and I think things are going well. I hope God continue to provide me with wisdom and strength to take care of her. Even now with all my understanding of God it is not easy to treat her well and resist temptations.

Ok that's enough for now. Ask me for other things. =)

Cool, can you say what Jesus has done for you lately? Have you been baptised?

1) I don't think Jesus is there to do what I want him to do for me. He is not my servant. However he is gracious and he often answered my deepest prayers. For example I had been praying for a GF for years. However looking back I was clearly not ready for a GF back then.

Last year he provided me with my first ever GF when I was more ready. However that first GF was a "training session". It didn't work out but I did learnt a lot.

Jesus bought me a very nice sister in Christ to take care off about 7 months ago. She is my second ever GF. I still got a lot to learn about the ladies. But God provide me with a lot of wisdom and luck. =)

I guess I just want to say that God knows best. God will not withheld something that's good from us. When God doesn't answer our prayers, it usually is for the better. We are either not ready. Or our future partner wasn't ready. Or it would somehow lead to the harm of another person. No matter our situation we are asked to trust that God knows best. We cannot see through all of time and space like God can. =)

2) Yes I had been baptized since I was 18. However I lost my faith soon afterwards as I enter university. I then came back to faith after university.

hmm well. I know that Jesus does want to be our servant at first because he washed Peter's feet. Thats funny you asked him for a gf rather than him be your friend.

When I got saved I just thought the gift of salvation was so wonderful it didn't occur to me to want a bf as well. And that he died on the cross for me. Maybe its different for guys.

How come you lost your faith at university?

Oh so your parents, what do they think of you being a christian? Are they ok with it?

They are ok with me being a Christian. They just told me not to be too extreme. Like volunteer too much. Donate too much. Talk too much about Jesus. etc.

They told me to be careful when mentioning my Christian faith to middle eastern in North America. Some might be hidden terrorists and might kill me.

I told them that the % of Muslim who are terrorists are very very small. And that these local terrorists couldn't care less who they kill. They just want to kill someone, anyone in North America and Europe. Muslim terrorists killed way more Muslims than people of other religions.

My mother used to go to my old church. But she found the sermons very boring. She didn't feel anything and she eventually stopped going. Now it is hard to convince her to try my new church, where the sermons are much much better.

My dad hates the church because they did many evil things. Like the Crusades and the treatment of Native Indians of America. He said even today America, where the presidents always claimed to be Christians, would bomb and kill people. So Christians ordered the bombing and killing of innocent lives.

I point out to him that many people used the name of Jesus in vein. They just use Jesus's name to do what that person himself wanted. The way they acted or are acting has nothing to do with what Jesus actually told his followers to do (e.g. love your enemies, do not be afraid of your persecutors, etc). And that many Christians organizations are doing great charity work around the world. He would agree but still won't even give Jesus a chance.

Anyways deadlock with my parents in terms of Christianity. I need to pray for them more. Maybe one day.

Some people pretend to be christians. Yes my mum uses that argument too.
We can pray together for our parents. I put up a prayer on the prayer wall.

Haha cool! I might go take a look at that later. =)

Do you enjoy writing CHIPPS? Do you have your own blog?

Sorry didn't see this question. :p

I enjoy writing. But I don't have my own blog. Blog feels like just me talking and trying to get as much "likes" as I can. I don't like popularity contests. Feels like high school all over again.

Writing on forum is much more interactive.
