I don't think evangelizing is the issue. This person and many others in society have a hard prideful heart. So, if we tell them the Gospel straight away, they will scoff at it. The Gospel is foolishness to those who do not believe. So, we need to soften the soil with the plough of the law
Has that been effective for you? If a heart is hard and prideful it seems something like God's law will bounce off. People these days would rather dig their heels in than reflectively reconsider.

Sometimes it can be effective. Other times it bounces off the hard heart. Galatians 3:24 also says to use the law to bring someone to Christ. "Therefore, the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith."
And once again, Psalms 19:7 "The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul"
In the end, I cannot change a person but if we show them their sin, their conscience will testify to them that they have sinned against God and so they will be guilty. If they see this, then they may see their need for a saviour. If, they do not see it, then no matter how nice we are to them, they will still love their sin.

This video just came out today. Watch the first minute and a half as it addresses those people who have a hard heart like the person David was speaking to.

The young lady was very docile but Paul had to be knocked off his horse by Jesus himself. Still, even those with hardened hearts have a chance. I am thinking of a young man right now, atheist. I think we at least got to the point where he admits that a consciousness could be the underlying base of our existence. Well, long way to go. He comes from a Malcom X type of Muslim background but his grandmother was Christian. There is a lot of damage to be healed. I think some people look for reasons not to come to Christ. But then again, like the young lady, there are many who think they are good and even good Christians but have not "crossed over" really, have not repented, have not welcomed Christ as the center of their lives.

Now a guy like Richard Dawkins.... that might take Jesus himself.

Atheists do not like to be looked upon as foolish. So, I use "the builder built the building, and the painter painted the painting, and the creator created creation" argument with them. But when I say it, I make sure to point out the foolishness of those who think that a buidling could build itself.
This is what I say: (The unbeliever in red)

You: I can prove to you within 40 seconds that there is a God. - How?
You: See that building over there, how do you know that there was a builder? - Because the building is there. You can see it. Someone built it.
You: Yes. And if I were to say that the building fell together by itself, you would call me an idiot. It’s impossible for it to fall together by itself.
You: Now, imagine I had a painting in my hands, and it is over 400 years old. You and I have never seen the painter, he died hundreds of years ago. How do you know that there was a painter? Because you can see the painting.
You: Yes. And even if the painter died hundreds of years ago, and you never saw him, you still know that there was a painter.
Now, by using the same logic, if you look at creation, so all the stars and the moon and the sun, the clouds, seasons, flowers, trees, birds, cats, dogs, cows and all the living creatures, you must say that there is a creator.
Just as your eye saw order and design in the building and the painting, you see order and design in creation. Order and design are signs of intelligence. It's absolutely scientifically impossible for creation to create itself. Just like it would be foolish to say the building fell together by itself, likewise, it is foolish to say that creation fell together by itself.
So, if the builder built the building, and the painter painted the painting, then the creator must have made creation.

Once I have said this to an atheist, most will say, "Well there had to be someone who built it" You can then start to discuss who built it and then lead them to the Gospel.

That guy is going to be really disappointed when he finds out pleasure is not the answer...

What I would have said to the guy is "No, Christianity is not a system to control the poor. There are many Christians throughout society, from very rich to very poor. And you sir, in giving in to your hedonistic passions, are guilty before God and you need to repent of a self-serving lifestyle while telling us we need to do X, Y, Z to help people, which you yourself are not willing to do."

While finishing up evangelizing at the local farmer's market, I saw this guy standing around so figured he be the last one to pass a Gospel tract to while I head back. What he said shocked me and was totally unexpected. Curious how y'all would have responded because I was pretty much at a loss for words.
Hi David, it appears that this guy was only interested in his own opinion.
