  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi!
We have 2 cats, and just found out our son is fairly highly allergic to them. His allergies are so bad, he's not hearing clearly. All the shelters in this area are so full, they're not taking cats.

Any ideas on what to do with the cats, now we can't keep them? We'd prefer finding them homes somewhere . . . or a no-kill shelter.

Freecycle, Thrifty Nickel... Newspaper ad, or ad that you can leave in a local petstore/post office ---that kinda thing where people can contact you about them.

If you or your DH work, spread the word that way also.

We found out about a pedigree Turkish Van that way through my MIL, and we're supposed to go check him out this weekend.

Be careful who you give them to on Free Cycle - free pets have been known to end up as bait for dog fights. :(

Any family members who would take them?

Could you ask around at church if anyone could take them?

DS has Asthma and Allergies we learned we'll never be able to have a pet unless we have an outdoor pet.

We have an aquarium we're able to keep . . . no dander :D

Don't have family that want cats (or more cats), currently setting things up to ask around. We don't want to have to put them down . . . but just setting them outside would probably kill the older one . . . and I think is termed "animal cruelty" by way of abandonment. Looking for homes :)

Thanks,
R

My son was born with two cats in the house. They'd often nap with him too, until he became highly allergic to them when he was two - bad exzema like rashes. Fortunately our house was big enough to keep the cats mostly downstairs and we stepped up our cleaning (hired additional maid service). Now that he's an 8yo, he doesn't appear to be allergic to them though we don't encourage too much interaction with the cats (now three cats! :D).

Not that this helps your situation now, but there's hope that your child will outgrow the allergy.
