  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi, I have always been a Catholic but a really bad one -is there anything that I can do to start again? Without having to go to confession? Also how can I get salvation as a Catholic? Please help!! Catholic values differ from Christian ones - I think

My answer to your first question was "go to confession" - until I saw your second question. Deary, if you're going say you're Catholic, don't just do it halfway. Being Catholic means you should go to confession. You can't accept half of what the Church teaches, but not the other half.

As to obtaining salvation, I'm not entirely sure what you mean. Do you feel you're not saved or summat? Remember, the Church doesn't teach "once saved, always saved" as most people conceive the concept.

And CATHOLICS ARE CHRISTIANS. I'm a little offended by people who put them in two different categories. Hmmm... let me think and come back to this thread later. Maybe you could be more specific? How do you feel you've been a bad Catholic? What do you mean by 'obtaining salvation as a Catholic?' It sounds like you may need to talk with your priest.

I'm not a Catholic but you can know if your saved or not. As long as you've confessed your sins, believe Jesus is the Lord and Saviour, and asked him to rule and take over your life than you are saved!

I can't really help you with any thing else..but I hope I may of helped a bit..:)

Confession is not something to be feared! it is something to be celebrated. I know that this seems difficult to see now, but it is true.

Confession is a celebration of the reunion of creature and Creator. it is us admitting that we have done wrong, being pardoned, and once more being in a state of Grace with our beloved Creator. That Jesus gave us confession must show you its value - that He died for us Must show you the incomprehensible love of the Holy Trinity!

I was also scared of going to confession at one stage, but when I went, I felt so indescribably overjoyed! To be back in a state of grace with the Lord! - and then once confession is done, you receive communion - You receive Him into you! What a privelage. Remember that He loves you. More than you would ever know! - I don't feel right anymore when I don't make my confession.

Remember also that when you receive Holy Communion that you are making an immense statement to those around you. You are saying that you are living a Christian life, and are one in the Lord! To receive Communion unworthily is to receive Him unworthily!

He loves you, and to try to live for Him will show that you Love Him too!

Pray to make a good confession, and to know yourself (to know our own weakness is an immense grace!), Go to confession, receive Holy Communion.

Then I would suggest trying to understand the Eucharist - and How great it is - How wonderful the Mass is!

The other thing is speak to your Spiritual Director - He will be able to help, as he is there at your service - He is a servant of Christ!

- Only in that They are stricter... but we are Christian. (2000 years old too!)

Not only do we have the Scriptures, but we also have the traditions passed down from the Apostles! And we have the Pope to guide is morally!

God Bless!:amen:
