  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

OK, about a month or two ago, i was in Winchester Cathedral with a friend, and darn, if i hadnt felt Gods presence before, i sure as heck did then...

My friend and i (who is a complete aethist) had bought a single rose cos we, well, liked them, and when we got into the Lady's chapel at the back, we just felt compelled to lay them down at the alter, was it coincidence that when we went to buy the roses, the stall was right near the church and had only two left?

Ever since that day, my friend has been thinking abou coming into Christ's light, and i have been thinking how much i love the Catholic culture, its traditions, its rituals.... Its thinking....apart from the Pope.

I was just wondering how easy it is (or hard) to get into the Catholic faith? If any catholics can tell me,then it'd be greatly appreciated.

You need to speak with a priest about RCIA.

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is how you convert to the Catholic faith.

After ~7 months or so you are confirmed and have your first Holy Communion (Eucharist). Generally the confirmation/conversion ceremony happens on Easter.

Since you're under 18 you'd probably have to get one of your parents to sign some sort of permission slip to allow you to attend RCIA though.

Edit: This also of course means embracing all of the doctrines associated with the Catholic Church.

My mother converted to Catholicism..she had already been baptized so she didn't need to do that but she had to take a class where you learn teh basics of Catholicism. Talk to the pastor about it..I don't knwo if all churches are the same.

All that you have to do is call a church and either speak to or make an appointment to speak to a priest. Trust me, they don't have anything better to do:)..Just kidding, I am sure that they would be delighted to speak with you about becoming a Roman Catholic. Good luck, and I have faith that God will bless you in your journey.

-Peace-

Oh, and as for those you who wish to speak ill of John Paul II, I would just like to remind you that hating is not a virtuous activity. When you have lead billions of Christians, from all over the world, even after being shot in the line of duty no less, for over a quarter of a century then you can talk. Just something to think about.

To Shadowed_eyes regarding your OP. I'm glad that you received such a grace from God when you did and especially that your friend is encouraged to seek Jesus from this experience. You will be most welcomed by any priest to enter the Church. They will help you along the way and put you in touch with many other Catholics some new and some who have been around for awhile. I also encourage you to hang out here at OBOB for a while as we have many people here discovering the church and others who are very knowledgable. Tons of folks your age too!

Welcome and I'll be praying for your discernment.:crossrc:
