  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

One thing I do admire about Catholic based charities is you don't have to be Catholic, or Christian for that matter, to receive aid from the agencies.

Catholic Relief Services is one of the best private agencies to help in the third world countries, in my opinion. I wouldn't be suprised is CRS was already coordinating efforts in the devastated areas as soon as the wave hit SE Asia

It was announced last night, and I believe I heard this on the news, that Catholic Relief Services has put in $35 million in aid for the Tsunami ravaged areas. It was also reported that CRS was the first on hand to render aid to survivors of the Tsunami.

God's blessings to all the CRS workers who were stationed there when the wave hit, and may they continue to draw strength from God in order to do His work.

Update on donations:

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=676&ncid=676&e=2&u=/usatoday/20041230/ts_usatoday/rushofdonationsfromusaisimmediateandimmense

Other donors turned to technology to send aid quickly. Catholic Relief Services reported that it had raised more than $1 million in less than three days and that its Web site - which accepts donations by credit card - crashed because of heavy traffic. Amazon.com posted a request for donations on its home page and reported raising more than $2.5 million in 24 hours. ...
Catholic Relief Services President Ken Hackett compares the outpouring of donations to the responses after famine in Ethiopia became widely known in 1984 and after Hurricane Mitch devastated Central American nations in 1998.

"We are asking all Catholic churches in the United States to take up a collection," he says. "We hope people will be generous."

Our Diocesan Administrator sent a fax to all the parishes requesting speciall collections to CRS for Tsunami aid. My Priest announced this weekend that those wanting to donate to make a note on checks or donation envelopes for this purpose.
