  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I love Scripture and read it daily.
I often feel moved by my readings, (but not every sentence) and, regardless of how I 'feel' about the readings of the day, I make a conscious effort to apply them to my daily life.

They most definitely are the inspired Word. They are infallible in how the Church interprets them (as is demonstrated in Scripture)...the words themselves alone are not infallible (as demonstrated in countless denominations different interpretations).

Some Scripture is actually very difficult to understand, which is why I am grateful each day that men smarter than I have taken the time to interpret them!

Christianity COULD flourish without the Scriptures, but since we have them, why would we try? The Scriptures have been written down for our benefit...to make it easier to draw closer to God.

I have found no contradiction in all of Scripture. Some might like to paint a picture that one exists, but I have yet to ever see a true contradiction. Individual verses may be twisted in interpretation (to the twisters destruction), but God is not a God of confusion...

The Bible is critical to the Catholic Church. Lengthy passages of Scripture are read daily at every Mass. Nearly every word spoken at Mass is pulled from Scripture. Yes, from start to finish, there are less than a dozen sentences that don't appear in Scripture, and those remaining sentences can all easily be said to be derived from Scripture.

I probably missed some of your questions...but if you want to discuss, this should be plenty to get us started.

Peace in Christ

What impact do sacred texts have on your life in general?quite a lot! they are my roadmap when i'm lost, they are my encouragement when i'm down, and they give me hope when i have none.

What do you feel is your ultimate goal within your religion, if any? to see as God sees, to listen as God listens, and to love what God loves. That's quite a lot, but the opportunity to do so exists in every day.
Where is this expressed in your sacred text?Ephesians 4:20-32 probably expresses it best.

Yes or no, do you feel emotionally impacted and moved when reading Sacred Texts? If yes, to what extent? If no, why?yes, because i recognize that this is the word of God, and that at any given moment this word has the power of both life and truth in it, so it is to my benefit that i pay attention to what the Word says in my life.

Is it more important at particular times of the year to read Sacred Text than others?i don't know that it is more important, but i do know that reading the scriptures 'in season' is more beneficial because of the applicability they seem to have. Also reading the scriptures during Lent seems to bolster my holy armor against satan and his wiles and snares.

What do you believe are the origins of Christian Sacred Text?the origins are from God (by divine revelation) and are often used in the Old Testament to refute other texts outside the bible that give glory to other gods.

On a scale of 1 to 5, how inspired by the Holy Spirit do you feel when reading sacred texts?5

Do you believe that the sacred texts are the infallible word of God?this one is easy to answer because i have previous experience with the Holy Spirit working in my life. I know how important it is to get the whole message and the exact words from God exactly right, and to deliver them without any extraneous input from my own humanity. No one can improve upon God's words, nor should they ever try.

Could Christianity exist without Sacred Text?from the practical experience of the first century church they knew how important the word of God and the writings of the Apostles would be. Without the scriptures, trying to run the church, teach theology, and preserve the teachings of Christ would be like trying to draw a straight line while blindfolded. The true word of God is absolutely necessary.

Are there any contradiction in Christian Sacred Text? no, but just like an elephant, there are many parts of the same thing, and many ways to describe it.

On a scale of 1 to 5, how easy do you perceive the intended meaning of Christian Sacred Text? With the blessing of the Holy Spirit to help me, i'd say 4-5 depending on how receptive i am to instruction at that moment.

What is sacred to you and why?God is the scale and the true measure. all else is compared to Him

What is your definition of the word ‘sacred’?immovable, true, holy, unchanging.

What is the role of the Bible within Society or Catholic tradition?it is for teaching, advise, reproof, and counsel.

Do you feel that the concept of sacred within the Bible is a concept of something being directly connected to God or something different? everything that is good is from God and of God. Everything that is sacred is reserved for God.

Do you feel that the true role of the Bible is being delivered and interpreted properly within your religious community?[/QUOTE] yes, i have confidence that it is. whether that is recognized by the people of the church and by the general public is another matter entirely.
