Thank you RDKirk for that information.

Hopefully the Republican shutdown will come to an end and those priests who are civilian government employees can get back to work.

it is not a Republican Shutdown

either the House or the Senate can end this by compromising

You're right. It's a Tea Party shutdown. There are enough votes in both houses to pass the budget, but Boehner is beholden to the fringe.

The House has been passing all sorts of funding bills, but Senator Reid refuses to budge. It's his way or the highway, so you are right, it's not the Repubs in the House who have shut the government down.

In fact, the Repubs were the ones who offered to fund the government.

Dude? really?
Reid will not even compromise?
How is this all being blamed on the Tea party?
Obama and the Senate could end this at any time by compromising

Obama could say that the military chaplains will not be punished
he IS the commander and chief of the military

Compromise on what? Obama care was passed as is, it was upheld by the supreme court, and Obama ran for reelection on Obamacare and was won. Now that it comes time to actually implement the main part of Obamacare, the Tea Party wants to do everything in it's power to keep it from going live. They lost all the other battles they fought over it, so now they're trying one last desperate attempt to stop it. Because they know that once it goes live they will never be able to repeal it.

All we ask is that Boehner allows the House to vote on the Senate budget. He won't because he knows it will pass.

Obama care was passed as is,
well the Individual Mandate will be implemented on Jan 1 2014
and the Employer Mandate will be implemented on Jan 1 2015
also major provisions that pertain to the insurance industry is being delayed
also, Congress, and congressional aids, are getting a special exemption

the law that is being put in place does not look like the law that was voted on

but it beats what it replaces.

Snipped to portion addressed

Not according to most people. They want it repealed and replaced with something that will work, bring down costs and increase doctors (and not reduce the work week to less than 30 hours while raising the unemployment rate.) Oh and Catholics and Evangelical Christians would like it if our right to religious freedom was respected as well.

Right wing sources deliberately obfuscate the polling data to make it seem like most people want Obamacare repealed. That is consistently untrue.

Actually, "most people" want either Obamacare or something much more extensive than Obamacare. It's a minority that don't want it at all.

If you call those who want more Obamacare (like a genuine socialized system or a single-payer system) to those who want none, you can call them all "unhappy with Obamacare" and get a majority.

as commander of the military, Obama could just order that the ministers are not hindered from doing their job during the Government shutdown

he refuses to do that
but then again, he has never had much respect for religion or religious people

It's unlikely the specifics had even been brought to his attention until now. That's fifty contract workers out of thousands.

The effect is grossly exaggerated. I've seen four specific locations where contract priests have been identified (Quantico, Virginia Beach, Washington Navy Yard, and Ft Belvoir)--all in the Washington DC
area where civilian congregations are readily available. Yes, it's less convenient for military members to take a taxi or a bus or drive to an off-base chapel, but it's certainly not impossible.

And remember: The military is not legally required to provide chaplains at all.

No, you are factually wrong. The President does not have that authority as commander in chief. I think it is you who is the person showing disrespect by making false statements about the President.

Actually, not. The Senate already compromised by agreeing to the House position on the Appropriations bill, yet we still have a shutdown.

It could end today if the Speaker would allow a vote on a clean CR. He can vote against it himself, but he needs to allow a vote.
