  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Growing up, our church began teaching the catechism in middle school Sunday School. Recently our current church had promotion Sunday, and all of these little six year olds got up and went through quite a bit of the catechism. You want to talk about one of the sweetest, most humbling sights ever . . . I almost started bawling until my own daughter--there was no nursery--began to shout "MEOOOOWWW" as she stood on the pew.

At what age did you begin to teach your children the catechism (if you did it)? Scripture memory?

I started my children around 7, 8, 9. We never spent time memorizing them but used them to help teach scriptural concepts. For our family we thought it more important to be able to read the Bible (Authorized King James Bible) and understand it, memorize the Decalogue (from the AV) and repeat the Lord's Prayer. Which catechism, shorter?
