  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

NO. The Catechism is The Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Imprimi Prtest +Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger

No one is allowed to reprint this Catechism or to translate it into another language without the permission of the Holy See.

Go to a Catholic book store and buy a Catechism, they are all the same.

Chris,

I just purchased my first one last year.

Got it at a 'nationally' known book store, not sure I am allowed to name the store here or not -- so I'll not just in case. :)

Mine is green and soft covered: Catechism of the Catholic Church: Second Edition.

I am enjoying reading and studying it very much, I hope you enjoy yours also. It is a lot easier to digest than I thought it would be.

*sigh*

This is sooooo sad. I am involved in my parish's RCIA program this year and last night I asked if any of our catecumens or candidates had been given a Catechism and the leader, the LEADER mind you, said that no and they wouldn't be given one because it was ONLY for those who would be catechists. :( :( :( I am NOT very happy with this RCIA program.

Wow, that's kind of scary.  One complaint that many non Catholics have is that Catholics don't know much about there faith.  Sad to see that being promoted.

Good point, VOW. People of intelligence should be able to check out in all detail what they are learning in class. Any possibility the leader doesn't want to have someone correct a 'slipup'? Then again, maybe the pastor is in agreement with how the class is handled. But do talk to the priest, as we find there are those who believe they are in charge and know best.

Vow and Kotton,

I bought the catecuman that I'm sponsoring one. This is not the first "problem" I have seen. First session had "God the Mother" presented ACK!!! Session two brought out that "the Church is attempting to "get away" from infant baptism and is advising parents to wait until the child reaches the "age of reason""!!!!! WHAAAAAT??? (I sure didn't hear any of THAT when I had my youngest (22 months now) baptised) Then last night the Catechism. I'm REALLY concerned for our parish. I can't imagine our priest NOT knowing what's going on in the RCIA program.

I bought mine and am pretty happy with it.

Second edition (I was afraid of what I might miss if I bought the cheaper first edition, but which seems like groundless concerns now)

You can buy most any book pretty cheap at http://www.addall.com, it's where I found mine. It's easiest if you already have the ISBN number though, as there may be multiple editions under one title.

And Angelus00, what you've described does sound very serious.  I agree that the bishop should be notified.
