cat with watercolours

36x48cm or 14,2''x18,9'' inches. This is my second pure watercolour painting. It is not finished yet but I will post it now and later post the finished result. I hope you like it. I do not know how to make the fur more realistic. Guess I need just to use smaller paint brushes..

According to a russian course. My cat looks different though.

The fur does not have to be realistic, it looks fine. We fill in details with our mind if needed sometimes. Anyway, I like it. T'is a far better job than I could hope to do, since I cannot draw or paint at all. I look forward to seeing it progress! So one cat person to another, great work!

Thank you so much but I will still try to work over the fur further more.... we will see. Maybe it gets broken than hahaha )

The eyes and features make it, I like it a lot. Probably some dry brushing techniques could do something with the fur but it's fine this way too.

Not even sure dry brushing is a thing in water colors, it is with acrylic and oils though and enamels. We use those in scale model building/painting etc.. When we do weathering on the models,one technique is to dry brush. My wife did water colors but I can't ask her since she has passed on now. You wouldn't want to see how my rendition of a cat would turn out so I think you did great ! Ya know the nature of water color is that more abstract look vs super detail I think. I assume the cat is she, so just add some whiskers to her maybe. Cool painting !

Thanks. It was last Dec so slowly adjusting. Life can change in minutes, enjoy them now because they are precious but we had 47 years worth of them together and to live in Christ is gain or die in Christ is gain, we know where she got off to !

But the cat and water colors, cool stuff ( back on topic ) !

What would give you painting a more life like appearance. is not so much painting more hair (like adding hair by single strokes) But having a more solid feel to the cats head, model the planes of the cats head to give it structure.

Kris, your upgrade to your painting is awesome ! As to my wife, God provided two visions of her the day after her passing, one wide awake of her passing through the gate of heaven. Most beautiful scene you could imagine. The second in a waking dream of the new her in total peace, beautiful complexion and patient. It was her voice that woke me that morning. God provides ! She was, well still is a born again believer, we know where she is with no question.

You must be born of the spirit to see the kingdom of God John 3:3. This is a rebirth, once of water ( natural birth) , second of the Spirit otherwise known as born again.

And then absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8

Its finished now. I am not so much happy cause too many failures in the fur.... I will try it againg. It is according to a russian lesson in watercolours. If somebody like to see the photo of the original write me privately. This are good lessons to learn with I believe.

I cannot draw and bought a book on drawing animals a month a go and tried to follow the section on drawing a cat. My work was AWFUL! I'll try again soon, but I have no hope of doing much better.
I like your work! If you saw mine you would laugh and even NOT know it was a cat!

One of the ways you can easily create depth in your work is to not draw a square-on image. By this I mean, turn the head of the cat so that its features overlap, like in the drawings of heads dtaylor offered you. Neither head is facing you directly, but is turned to some degree, so that you can see the side of the face more and the nose overlaps part of one cheek. The hardest angle at which to draw any face is the looking-straight-at-you angle. So, start with something a little easier that uses overlap to create a sense of depth.

The updated cat looks much better!

Thank you both . I will maybe try in the next painting a little bit more the view from the left of the head. But to be sincere it is hard enough for me to focus on how to paint that a lot better. So I am not sure if I will do it or succeed. For me it is anyway little from the left of the observer, but too less with these accents I guess.

Sadly, if that is an early or first drawing, it is light years beyond my ability! (I am laughing) I wish I could do that NOW!

Just have a look. No 3d! Just lines.... especially the first. The second picture is with watercolour pencils, of course I was thinking more before painting. No stress when painting. Enjoying is important. Not the result . Someday there will be further steps automatically. My first paintings I do not have a photo, they were extremely simple. Like childrens paintings.
