  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have a cute and lovable 9 month old silver and white kitten! I absolutely adore her, however recently she's gotten bad at scratching the couch! We've tried everything we can think of! We've used a spray water bottle, we've picked her up, said "NO" and took her to the scratching tower...

Is there anything else we can do? Mr. K refuses to declaw her, and I agree to an extent. But I want to save our sanity and get her to stop scratching on my couch!

You can also try spraying something with a citrus-y scent on the place where your cat scratches. I've never tried it (ours are declawed) but I've read of others doing it to get their cats to stop scratching the furniture. Apparently, cats hate citrus-y smells. It's worth a try, though, maybe. :)

Love, Heather

Yes, we used aluminum foil also and that worked for us. We also put up several "corner scratchers" that we made ourselves. We got some carpet scraps from the store and stapled them to a few corners in the house that were not major traffic areas (or visible from the front door) and now the cat's are content to shred those instead of the furniture. Good luck! I know it's very frustrating and the damage can be severe. We had a couch literally shredded from one of our earlier cats.

My cat isn't declawed either. When we first got her, she scratched on one of our couches. To stop her, at the pet store we bought some double sided tape stuff. You put it where the cat scratches, and when they go to scratch on it, their paws kind of stick to it, and they don't like that feeling. It cured her of it. Sometimes with water bottles and stuff, you don't catch them every time, so it is not as effective. Also, do you have a scratching post for your cat? If not, get one and put it out in the open where she can see it. That's what we did at first. When she gets used to scratching on that, you can move it out of the way. Hope that may be of some help! :)

Hahaha! I have a sharpei dog, his favorite way to greet someone is to come right up and nibble on your hands. I know I ought to try and discipline it out of him, but its just so adorable, he'll waddle up and gum you, it's only if he's really excited that he'll use teeth.
