In his prayer of invocation at the opening night of the Democratic National Convention on Monday, Chicago archbishop Cardinal Blase Cupich lamented the “ongoing injustices in our national life” while calling for national unity.

Speaking before a packed house at the United Center in Chicago on Monday night, Cupich said Americans are regularly called to “reweave the fabric of America,” arguing that the country is “a nation composed of every people and culture, united not by ties of blood but by profound aspirations of life, freedom, justice, and unbound hope.”

“In every generation, we are called to renew these aspirations,” the prelate said. “We do so when we live out the virtues that dwell in our hearts, but also when we confront our failures to root out ongoing injustices in our national life, especially those created by moral blindness and fear of the other.”

My hometown was in the Archdiocese of Omaha, where I spent the first 23 years of my life. From moving to Lincoln until now I’m under the diocese of Lincoln.

It’s entirely possible.

Cardinal Cupich was ordained as a priest in the archdiocese of Omaha.

My own thought is that the taxpayers-money that Dem's give to the RCC's social programs was the deciding factor here. I've seen other high-ranking prelates act in similar ways.

The DNC doesn't care about the faithful. To them, we are the arch-enemy.

It isn't "the other" that righteous people fear. Righteous people rightly fear falsity - duplicity - lies which lead to death. And one lie was out of the Cardinal's mouth when he said - pandering with duplicity - America is “a nation composed of every people and culture, united not by ties of blood but by profound aspirations of life, freedom, justice, and unbound hope.”

No, Americans are not united by aspirations of life for the unborn, the profoundly handicapped, the culturally "useless," the "deplorables."
We are deeply divided in our desire for freedom - whether it is to mean freedom from any self-restraint, or freedom to live Truth.
We see two systems of justice now at work, in violation of common sense, common law, and natural law.
We are at odds with one another, one side clinging to hope unbound to fact, truth and reality itself: "hope" in fantasy, in a dystopic horror story from hell. And there are "the others", thanks be to God, Hope in the Promise of a new heavens and a new earth where righteousness dwells and remains.

We have prelates having forgotten lessons from of old:
1Ki 18:21 And Elijah came near to all the people, and said, "How long will you go limping with two different opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him."

USA's last 3 President's visited Ireland - not because they love this Country - but to appeal to the enormous amount of American voters who have Irish ancestry. Same goes for visiting the wailing wall - that's done to cosy up to the Jewish vote.
So much of politics is strategy and appealing to certain demographics.

I'm afraid he cast his pearls before swine, no way that any of them would listen to even a liberal Cardinal like him let alone a properly Catholic Cardinal. He's just a formality to demonrats.

I agree. Eric Sammons pointed out that host bishops always open the convention with prayer (be it DNC or RNC), but the scandal from Cupich was that he wouldn't invoke the name of Jesus in his prayer (to say nothing of speaking against the PP truck right outside killing children).
