As Christians we are called to be wise as serpents and gentle as doves. I understand being confused but I see no reason to not be charitable at this point. It is what we are called to do. Being charitable does not mean that Church teaching will be trampled underfoot by clergy of goodwill. Will there be rogues? Sure there will. But I think the Church is going to have to cross that road when she comes to it.

I know it's confusing. But after much painstaking explanation from David, reading on my own, this is not going to be the norm. Only those in impossible situations will be allowed communion. This is a starting point for the majority to get themselves right with the Church under guidance of the priest. The Church is not condoning irregular unions. There will be no doubt some clergy that abuse what is meant by Amoris Laetitia. But as I said, unless the Pope comes out and clarifies in no uncertain terms, then we are just going to have to cross that road when we come to it.
The church is being charitable when they give communion to irregular unions and cohabiting couples? Is that what they're calling it these days? Charity? Last year it was mercy.

It's not a game changer because it implements what has already existed at a pastoral level.

Both Cardinals agree on that. As (now) Cardinal Cupich says: "There's not really any doctrine as such that's changed"

The problem, as it has always been...is the worry that some will open a kind of express lane without due diligence. That can be dealt with through the process of collegality. I have reservations that that would be the best way for this to be resolved. But it seems to be what will be happening.

I guess the point of contention would be when discussing our Pope, it shouldn't be "painstaking". I find this to be the problem.

I wish he would clarify and show more concern for his flock. That's no secret. But he seems to be of the mindset that he is going to force the flock to delve into their questions and work for the answers. I don't particularly care for it myself but he seems to think the technique has its merits. But this is not a classroom. It's a church.
I disagree that is what he is trying to do. He has his own mission I believe at this point. Global Socialism. I was lead to believe the Church condemned these things.

I see on your profile that you are a church seeker. Are you considering Catholicism?

Its not an under the table thing. There has been licit allowance of it depending on culpability and procedure, always. He is talking about expanding that beyond what is allowed by law. Which we can not do.
