After many, many weeks of debating in my mind, I've come to a conclusion about our President: he stinks. Sorry to everyone that I voted for the guy. Politics aside, you just needed to watch Bush when he first hit the ground in Mississippi all 'ums' and 'uhs' to see the guy just isn't leadership material. But its not just that, that was just the straw that broke the camels back. His slander of the Minutemen, super-failure to do anything about our fuel crisis, endorsing renewal of the Patriot Act.......the list goes on. (Iraq isn't really that big a sore point for me, but thats for another topic.) As a Republican who voted for Bush, I feel obligated to continue to support the person I elected, but as a man, I have to call a spade a spade, swallow the pride and agree with what so many -even, God forgive me, Michael Moore-have said: Bush is the wrong man to be President. Now, I'll take all the 'I told you so's' from the Dems and the Left, I've made my bed and I will lie in it so fire away. Voting for Bush was a foolish move on my part, but I'd be even more of a fool if I kept supporting him. The writings on the wall with Bush, how ironic so many of the predominantly Chrisitian GOP can't read it. Just how far into hell are you people going to follow this guy?

BTW, taking down the Elephant icon. Posted this here instead of the GOP forums so non-Repubs could respond if they wanted too without worrying about being reported. I also encourage other Bush supporters to seriously re-think their position and ask themselves if they are just letting pride keep them hanging on. What's he doing thats so great, show me just one thing that he has done that is worthy of the deep devotion and defense he gets? Not being a liberal or a Democrat doesn't seem to quite cut it anymore.

a good politician he is not. one of the things i do admire about him however is his unflinching determination. most politicians change sides everytime a CNN poll is released, but not Bush. I can admire that even if i do get dissappointed with him sometimes.

Thats true, but when your on the wrong track, it stops being determination and starts becoming foolishness. I don't believe we are on the right track.

Sometimes it's important to distinguish between determination and stubbornness.

Yea, i have been having my fair share of doubts about Bush as well. Look at how Europe sees us now. In the 90's weren't we respected by Germany, France, and other European nations? We lead Desert Storm and I believe we helped in Kosovo(sp?). I was only a child in the early 90's, but didn't we have more respect from the European nations?

I know a couple people who voted for Bush and severely regret it. If you feel like you made a mistake, that's ok. We all make mistakes. All you can do is go on from here and tell others why you disagree with him as the leader of America. Good luck to you!

Pres. Bush is under an absolute microscope, like all Presidents, but I feel that he has been under even more fire because of the way that he has rubbed the Democrats -- he is the epitome of a Republican on foreign affairs and has truly polarized the US in ways that it has not been in the entirety of my memory (admittedly, not very long).

I feel that there was no way that the Hurricane response could have been perfect and free of criticism; we have not had a major natural disaster like that in so long that we were bound to experience a lot of problems. Unfortunately, Pres. Bush was on watch, and he has to take the fire for it.

Overall, the President has done some great things -- in the midst of economic recession he fixed the economy (putting us back in the 4% growth rate number, which looked like a challenge with so many Democrats saying we were in recession); he liberated two nations and brought liberalized and lax policies to several other nations through aggressive diplomacy.

He is not the perfect President but I do not feel as if he has let us down, or disappointed us as a whole. I am happy with the way that I voted. I am sad to see someone give up the GOP and say this about our President.

I am no Christian but I believe in "love thy neighbour" and lots of other christian principals. George Bush is so selfish and his attitude to the rest of the world so distainful I can not believe anyone without shares in an oil company would vote for him let alone a true christian.
When I was young I had an image of America as a kewl place with big hamburgers and 365 flavours of icecream. Now I feel that it is a scary place where Christian fundamentalism is taking hold and human-rights are rapidly being eroded in place of greed and hatred and fear.
As a Londoner I know few people who have any respect for America and especialy it's foriegn policy.

So, because he's not a great orator, he's a bad leader?

Thank goodness. For a minute there, I was afraid you were going to criticize him for something superficial.

Have you ever seen old film of Dwight D. Eisenhower?

He could barely string a sentence together, but he turned out to be one of the greatest military minds in history and a pretty good president.

And, by the way, the next time you guys complain about President Bush taking a vacation, consider Ike. He was constantly taking off to Georgia to play golf. I mean every other week, he was going to Augusta or Palm Springs to play golf with Bob Hope.

Silent Cal was another terrible orator who turned out to be a great president.

super-failure to do anything about our fuel crisis,

What would you like him to have done?

As a Republican who voted for Bush, I feel obligated to continue to support the person I elected, but as a man, I have to call a spade a spade, swallow the pride and agree with what so many -even, God forgive me, Michael Moore-have said:

You do know that nearly everything Michael Moore has said has been debunked, don't you?

Voting for Bush was a foolish move on my part, but I'd be even more of a fool if I kept supporting him.

I agree. A booming economy, near record low unemployment, a sucessful war on terrorism.

Yeah, who'd want to support that?

What's he doing thats so great, show me just one thing that he has done that is worthy of the deep devotion and defense he gets?

Record growth, near record low unemployment, a successful war on terrorism...

Really? Can you give us an example of this?

I can not believe anyone without shares in an oil company would vote for him let alone a true christian.

Most of my portfolio is in tech stocks, pharmeceuticals and communication. I am a true Christian and I voted for him.

How is it that you, who is not a Christian, feel qualified to dictate to us who is or who is not a "true Christian"?

I voted for Bush in 2000, because I felt he was the right man for the job. It wasn't until after the "axis of evil" speech, that I started questioning the direction of our foriegn policy.

Since that time, I personally have had problems with his handling of both foreign and domestic issues. I'm all for tax cuts, but they need to be targeted to help the largest amount of the population (trickle down economics have proven not to work).

But I think my biggest problem with Bush is that I don't feel that he is a Republican. He is a foreign policy hawk. He has expanded the role of the government (think TSA), not shrunk it, he has introduced Big Brother in the form of the Patriot Act, he has crippled free market competition, and he is selling out the workers of this country, who should be his first responsibility.

I don't think all he has done is wrong, and I'll give credit where I think it's due of him. But this is a dark period of American politics. The quality of national candidates is at one of the all time lowest, yet with modern media, spin doctors, and instantaneous information at our fingertips, it is also one of the most passionate times in our history.

I used to vote Republican, and still do in state races. But the national Republican Party is no different than the special interest laden DNC that so many decry.
