  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Perhaps this is the correct section of the forums?

Anyway, for the life of me, I can never ever remember my dreams when I wake up, but I know that I dream when I sleep. I just can't ever remember anything. I feel like I haven't dreamed in years. Is this a medical condition or what? I never ever dream!

God Bless

I was more apt to remember my dreams when I was young. I don't think that I would really want to remember my dreams. Perhaps it is a learning process from growing up. Our brain "learns" to forget the dreams that do not matter.

I don't think we will have any sleep experts here, but I could be wrong.

I find I have more vivid dreams the less deeply I sleep.

For maximum dreams... restless girlfriend, strange bed, lots of light in the room in the morning and a few glasses of red wine the night before. :)

Do you not remember them at all, or do they just fade away after a few moments when you wake up?

If the second one is the case, try making a dream journal. Just put a pen and something to write on next to your bed, and when you wake up, before you do anything else, grab your pen and journal and write down whatever you remember. Over time, you will likely remember more and more of your dreams as your brain is taught to remember them.

Because all scientists have a degree in neurology.

He's giving a bit of conflicting messages. First he says that he dreams, but can't remember, and then he says that he never dreams.

That is common among many.

Might as well -- they act like they have a degree in everything else.

You've got geologists acting like they're some sort of authority on SN1987A, climatologists acting like they're some sort of authority on paleontology, and chemists acting like they're some sort of authority on dendrochronology.

But, of course, ALL are an authority on the Bible. ;)

And let someone post one of Henry Morris' footnotes from his Defender's Study Bible, and you'll get a lecture on the fact that he was just an hydraulics engineer.
He's giving a bit of conflicting messages. First he says that he dreams, but can't remember, and then he says that he never dreams.
I caught that too, but nevertheless, the question is an appeal to a medical explanation for a specific phenomenon.

I rarely remember my dreams and they tend to fade very rapidly if I do. I don't believe this is a problem. Unless you have symptoms of some kind, you are probably experiencing REM sleep, even if you don't remember dreaming.

I thought maybe a "scientist" here would address his question as to whether it was a medical condition or what.

I guess I was wrong.

Sometimes I overrate you guys.

This really wasn't necessary in this thread. :preach:

Everyone dreams... without REM sleep you go insane and die within a few weeks.

I think that he dreams, but can't remember, and my suggestion of a dream journal could work. You can teach your brain to remember your dreams, just like many other things.

Of course, not a physiscian or dream expert or something, but it's something I've read quite a bit about and tried myself, with good results. So there.

Having vivid dreams and having high recall of your dreams can be a sign of adrenal fatigue/chronic stress. I dream all night, every night and remember the whole thing. It could be a sign of poor sleep quality if you're not going into REM, but some people just don't recall their dreams even if they have them. Lack of dream recall could be related to drinking too much alcohol, stress, or some research says it's genetic. In my experience, men seem to have less dreams than women. My husband doesn't remember a lot of his.

It's recommended not to take B vitamins especially b6 before bed, as it's somewhat stimulating and causes vivid dreams/dream recall..

But... REM sleep is precisely the time when dreams, especially the recalles ones, happen. Your post makes no sense.

Do you die in your sleep?

Maybe, you can be unconscious but prevented from REM sleep... it's an unpleasant situation.

Really? I thought the recalled dreams were the half awake delirium as you start to come to consciousness?

You don't go trough a half awake delirium when waking up naturally. You go into a final REM phase and from there, you wake up and, possibly, remember that REM phase.
