You ask some tough questions!

In the Orthodox Church, it is a grass roots effort - from the ranks of the laity and monastics. People will believe that a certain perons is a saint. If a miracle happens, they will tell their priest, who will look into the matter and bring it to the attention of the bishop.

St. John of San Francisco who died in 1968 was canonized in the 1990's. Some people in his parish had a squabble over finances otherwise he would have been canonized much earlier.

St. Nectarios who died in 1920 was also canonized not too long after his death. A few masons tried to stop his canonization. But God's holy ones prevail.

Thanks a lot, Chanter.:)

I'm a big fan of St. Nektarios. My first run in with him was on the Island of Santorini where I bought a blessed Icon of him, at the time not even knowing who he was. Now when you say Masons tried to stop him from being canonized? Are speaking of the Freemasons?

Exactly, ecclesiastical freemasonry. It is a serious problem in all the churches.

Orthodoxy and Catholicism condemn freemasonry, but still people and even clergy join this secret society, where the members take blood oaths, which are condemned by the Holy Bible.
