Hi all,

is there any one of you can share with me the sites that discuss about Bible canon in specific ?

I would like to know the (technical) REASONS why certain books/writings (such as Esdrass, Maccabees, book of Enoch, Wisdom of Solomon, etc.) are not considered as scripture.

Thanks.
GBU
It is addressed here on CF also: Those other books: Apocrypha or Deuterocanonical ?

We need to make a distinction here, between the deuterocanonical/apocryphal books, and the pseudopigrapha. The simple answer is that the early church used the Septuagint (Greek) translation, and that the Septuagint inlcuded the deuterocanonical/apocryphal books. Read Wisdom or Sirach sometime and see if they don't at least measure up to the rest of the Old Testament. Indeed, we see in these books a preparation for the Gospel.

The Jews rejected these books at their council of Jamina, c. 90 AD, AFTER the time of Christ. The pseudopigrpha, such as Enoch, were not accepted by the early church or the Jewish community, though Enoch can still be found among the Ethiopians for some reason. (I'd be curious as to why, myself! Might ask the Oriental Orthodox about that one of these days...)

Just to add a little something here, it was Ptolemy who had ordered that all the Hebrew texts be translated into Greeks because he was curious as to what was written.

The Eastern Orthodox Churches still use these books. I believe that various early Protestants when making different versions of the Bible had used the Hebrew texts after the council mentioned.
