Does anyone happen to know what Saúl Álvarez's faith is? Is he a Christian boxer?

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

First, let me say that I once boxed and intended to become professional. However, once I started studying the Bible I realized that the twain are incompatible. Why?
Very simple, because it requires the opposite of what a Christian is required to be toward his fellow man, compassionate, and resolutely unwilling to do him harm for the sake of entertainment, personal glory and fame, or monetary reward.
True, many boxers profess faith in their Lord and call him Jesus.
But professing faith alone is insufficient to make one a Christian.
It also requires that we respect what Jesus taught and that we imitate him.
Otherwise our claim to being his follower is really hollow.
What faith does Alvarez profess? At the moment I don't know. But since he is Mexican and Catholics are the vast majority in Mexico I assume that Catholic would very likely be his professed faith. I'll research it and will post the answer if I find it.
