Candle tunnelling

Everytime i buy a candle, light it, it tunnels. I have read up on it but is it because i buy cheap candles? I have tried the suggestions on various sites but still it happens. I think it might be the cheap candles i buy.

Tunnelling is when the burn goes straight down but leaves a ring of wax around it.

The diameter is not that big on them.

Anyone experienced this and solved the issue?

I guess it's to do with the purity of the wax. Most of my candles 'tunnel'. Incidentally, have you ever tried frankincense candles.... it's like living in a cathedral!! bliss!!

I just got a candle at a company Christmas lunch and was told to let it burn for a while after it is first lit. I don't know if it is true or not.

'The first burn and the size of the initial wax pool sets the stage for everything. The longer your candle burns, the bigger the opening for future use. You might not even want to trim the wick that first time if it’s a wider container because a bigger, hotter flame could be the only way to melt the wax all the way out to the edge. But smoke and soot are never good for the wax, so keep a careful eye out for problems like that. Once the candle has formed a melt pool all the way to the edge of its container, extinguish the candle and trim it back a little.

I tied oil candles this year for Hanukkah,
never again wax candles.

They are a clear plastic small bottles with a wick,

last 36 hours, no mess, burn evenly.

Haha, no I do not know what brand, have searching every year to have oil lights instead of wax.

But I will be going to the store later today, (now kl 02:45)

will checked them out. I have to buy some new ones anyway.

But I promise they are terrific.

My soy candle did not tunnel, unlike the wax ones I have.... I had them all lit on Christmas Eve for hours and observed that when I went to blow them out.

Yes they do,

Been to the store, there was no brand name other than
the store name.

But the principle is the same as in the picure you posted.

Besides candles get knocked over easily.
