In 2005 CRA recognized diabetes as a disability, so you can apply for the tax credit. If you haven't already, get a T2201 and you can amend your taxes. Total return:

8 thousand dollars!

It was a struggle, as CRA denied me, but finally it's going through. I'm glad I'm an accountant who is use to dealing with issues like this, but it wasn't easy. If anyone is interested, it is worth the time as you then qualify for a Disability Savings Account, where amounts put away are matched in some cases 2-1.

Payout is Friday. Only will go back to 2004 but it's $1400 per year amended.

Let me bump my thread, as this is still available to anyone in Canada with Type 1. I helped my friend apply, CRA denied it, but we appealed it and won. It's funny, they denied it even though I sent the exact same evidence in for both mine and his.

Still worth the time.
