  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This is a cool thread!
Well, things I like about my country:
-The mountains and scenery
-Some people have funny accents, and if I travel for a few hours, they get worse!! :D
-I feel safe here as far as war and terrorist issues are concerned
-There are many interesting things to see and do in my city and province (Calgary, Alberta)

Who thinks Ottawa's goin' to the Cup this year? Looks like they might have the presidents trophy too!

GO SENS GO!!!

While they've got the President's Trophy all but locked up (all they need is a tie in their next game and they've got it for sure), I've suffered too much post-season disappointment in the past to make any predications about the playoffs.

I expect them to make it to the second round, but I'm not holding out for much more than that.

You sound like my brother in law.

Ottawa shocked everyone this year, even their owner!

I'm going to be optimistic. None of my teams have ever even been to the cup, let alone won it.

It seems I've found this thread way after it's expiration date.

My family and I are Canadians who have lived in the US for the last six years; two in Louisville, KY and four in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The wife and I are from the Halifax area but the kids were born in Calgary and I consider that 'home' in Canada.

I found it funny that 'smarties' was one of the first things mentioned at the beginning of this thread. There are smarties in the US - they are what we call 'rockets' in Canada, and they are made in Canada.

There is no plum sauce in the US, or decent tea. We get both send down by care packages from relatives. They also send us down chocolate bars and candy. Coffee Crisps, Crunchies, anything by Cadbury.

And it amazes me how recipes for the same product change from Canada to the US. I lived on shreddies and special K in Canada. What they sell here in the US is not the same thing, they suck. And why does all the 'average' white bread in the US turn to mush after it is toasted and then buttered? Don't Americans like a little crunch with their toast?

A friend of the wifes and her husband came to visit a year ago and he ended every sentence with 'eh.' I had always considered that to be an exaggeration of the US media but after listening to him I can see where people get that stereotype.

Looks like we will be headed to NS this summer for a vacation - all of our relatives are there. Will be the fist time in about four and half years I'll have been in Canada. Wonder if I will get down and kiss the ground like I did last time? :)

Wannabe?!?! A quick look at my profile would have shown you I am a Canadian who currently lives in the US. Coffe crisp is a bar, coffee cake is cake - except for the Tim Horton muffins which are great.

I do miss aero bars but not big turks - don't even remember them.

I suspect you have misunderstood Aquariuswolfs post, a quick look at his profile would have show you that he is an American living in Canada... perhalps he is refering to himself as the 'wannabe Canadian'?

Yeah Aquarius was referring to himself... oh that's ok... you can't take anything for face value on the computer! It's so easy to mix things up!

You sound like a true Canadian at heart... what on earth took you down south anyway?

I have to mention Timmy's!!! And of course there is 'eh' I went to Houston for a conference a few years back and I really noticed all the different accents. I think 'eh' is more used out west cuz I didn't hear many easterners using the phrase whereas here you hear it all the time!!! (I am a Calgarian!!!)

And, speaking of Calgary, gotta mention the Calgary Stampede (It is a large carnival that comes to town every July that makes the city millions, it is well known in the states, I have seen license plates from Florida that week) and then K-days (similar only in edmonton, not as big though)

I recently found out that Charter Schools seem to be a Canadianism too!!!
