Can you morally call yourself a Christian if you vote conservative.

Who/what is the alternative though?
Here in Canada the rest are all liberal/left-leaning parties that are all pro-choice and don't care one bit about Christianity.
I'm personally tired of all the political parties here however, as in one way or another, they are all identical.

I have seen this topic before and the mods usually shut it down because it endsup looking like people are telling other people they are not Christian but we'll see how this one goes.....

Having said that I think anybody can claim to be a Christian even if they are a off as a cannibal. The real question is how do you live your life? I have thought in the past that conservatives did not espouse Christian values because they were against government programs to help the poor support private over public schooling and other things like supporting gun rights. I believe conservatives can still consider themselves Christians by their individual actions. Maybe no support for government programs but they might give to charity and volunteer their time to help the needy and most importantly live by the golden rule. Many are church going people who read their Bibles and pray to the God of the Bible (trinity). Most support values like hard work and freedom as vital to their political belief system. Those are very Christian traits also. Nobody is 100% righteous so there are things I consider to not line up with Christian values such as more prejudiced views concerning race and ethnicity. Harsh mandatory minimum prison sentencing and beliefs about immigration are not as merciful but liberals have some non Christian views on government as well. as far as right to life, and no prayer in schools, so no one party gets to claimthey are the party of Christ.

I am saved by the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross and the grace of God. The point is i don't deserve it, But god still saves me through Jesus.

What i hate about conservative christianity is that it picks and choose who deserves to be helped and who dose not.

would Jesus walk past the homeless person in the street and tell him/her to get a job?

In my church we have a couple of conservative hypocrites who get more hung up on the issue of gay marriage legalization but try and justify policies that result in familes and children having to live of food banks.

No He wasn't and why insult us conservatives. It's you libs that hate freedom and love homo sin.
It's clear he has an anti-conservative agenda by saying nonsense such as "conservatives walking by homeless people telling them to get jobs". Of the people I know, only the conservatives give to charities that actually help out those in need.

One can be a Christian and be conservative, liberal, or moderate.

Speaking personally I generally regard myself socially and politically liberal, or at least left-of-center. And the reason for which is a matter of Christian faith and conscience. That doesn't mean that other Christians who tend to be more centrist or right-of-center are less Christian.

Attaching modern social politics to faith is very dangerous. Neither the right nor the left have a monopoly on Christianity. Jesus doesn't belong to, nor is He the possession of, any political party or to any political ideology.

In the US, school-sponsored prayers are demonstrably illegal. However, students are always allowed to pray on their own. It just can't be led by school employees or representatives. This goes for all types of prayer, for all faiths.

It is beyond hubris and out right stupidity to paint an entire political party as incapable of being Christian.

There are things Liberals are right about that have made this country better
There are things that Conservatives are right about that have made this country better

and vice versa

If you are the type to engage in revisionist history and mental gymnastics such that you can't acknowledge the achievements and contributions of each political party then you simply are not an objective rational person. You have been brainwashed by your respective party platforms into believing that the other political party is evil and hell bent on destroying the country...

A political party is more than just one hot button emotional issue that you may or may not agree with. Human beings are complex creatures and when you try to reduce an entire political party down to one issue and then make a caricature of that party so that you can defeat them in a Strawman type argument, you do the truth a disservice.

Why?

Jesus was the world first liberal or socialist maybe a better term.

Jesus wouldn't qualify as a liberal since the backbone of liberal philosophy past and present has always been the idea that the human intellect is supreme and can solve nearly any problem.

He never said anything about nationalization of industries, and didn't seem interested in those sorts of issues, so the jury is still out on whether he could be called a socialist.

I say not cause you go against Christs values but it will interesting to see what others think.

It goes against Christian values to be conservative? Being conservative is upholding traditional values, whereas liberalism is exactly the opposite. Which side do you think those gays who dressed up as Christ and the disciples and had a public orgy are on? That's liberalism- a completely unchained Babylon with no concept of kosher regularity.

I agree with what several others have said--Jesus does not fit into any modern political category. Sorry but neither liberalism nor conservatism existed in the ancient Roman Empire.

And wasn't it liberals who fought against child labor. Wasn't it liberals who fought for voting rights for women?

But, again, Jesus does not fit into any political category.
