  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

2 Timothy 2:10
Therefore, I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

Is it possible to be elect and not receive the promise?

2 Peter 1:10
Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure; for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall.

What is this saying? How does one go about figuring out whether or not they are elect? What happens if one finds out they are not?

Thanks for your kindness.

1.) No.

2.) Not wanting to offer false assurance, yet to encourage and offer guidance as to how to decrease doubting, increase assurance I would suggest reading 1 John, praying to our Lord asking for His comfort, peace and assurance. Then dwell on Isaiah 26:3 and know that Satan tries to throw us off course, increase our doubts and suggest to us that we do not really belong to our Lord. This is ongoing. He is the Prince of Peace and when you are having increased doubting you can be sure Satan is at work. Focus on our Lord and learn more of HIm and He will guide you to Himself. Jer 29:13
God bless you! As we continue to grow we need more and more food from scripture to increase our strength, not to read about scripture but to study God's words to us.

I have so little to add. The prior posts have covered everything.

Those who truly find they're not elect, move on. The critical point, as you can draw from LittleLambChild's posting, is that the unelect are not ultimately drawn to Christ to be saved. They're certainly not concerned about it: most I know reject the assessment outright, along with arguing shock or unfairness that they would be unelect. And that's not to say that the elect don't make similar heartfelt worries. Everybody's living with deception. The critical point is always being drawn to Christ to be saved.

If you find yourself to be unsaved, yet you are drawn to Christ, then consider -- you might not yet believe to the salvation of your soul -- but that doesn't make you unelect. Receiving the promise happens in time; election has happened from all eternity.
