Something I still can't understand is how Jesus is God, but is also his son. I don't get it because if Jesus is God, then his calling himself his own son.
Someone has explained it to me before that God is in three forms just like water. Water can be plain water, it can be ice and it can be vapour, but it's all the same thing. But it still doesn't make sense that God would call himself his own son.
If you can help me understand how this works that would be great.
God bless:)

Why do you think God would make sense?

"Heaven's ways are higher then man's ways as the Heavens are the earth."

Really, you need to read Scripture, which explains these things. Start with the New Testament, which should cover this for you.

Do not expect to understand God quickly.

I do not like the concept your friend used to explain God. Jesus is God incarnate at a single place and time. God the Father is beyond any place or time. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of the Father. It is also called the Spirit of Jesus, or Holy Ghost.

God the Father is Spirit and can not be seen except through the Son. That is not a trivial concept to understand. No one said it should be.

Now, God the Father sent the Son and the Son died on the cross, resurrected on the third day, and gave the Holy Spirit to many Christians.

From that many children of God have been made born again into the family of God through the Holy Spirit.

When Jesus returns Christians will finally see Him for who He is and become like Him. So, there will be many children of God fully then.

What is this like? It is like a man creates a book. He writes in heroes and heroines and villains and adversities. And he so loves this world he creates he goes into it himself and gives his life up so many can be not just characters on a page, but real living people just like he is.

Or, it is like a father and son together and the son is overjoyed at the father knowing his glory and wants to share that glory. But there is no one else. The son imagines many like himself to also see and praise the father. And from that comes the heavens and earth.

Or, consider creation a tree. There is a farm and our creation is but one tree. The farmer of the trees is God the Father. Now we live as the tree, not knowing of "farms" or anything like that, much less a farmer. We are concentrating on getting water to our roots and eventually bearing fruit.

Now God the Father comes into our Tree as God the Son and talks to us and explains to us what everything is about. Then, we see there is a world outside the tree.

Finally, God is everywhere. 'We move and live and breathe in God'. God created everything. He fills Heaven and earth. Everything is akin to a dream or imagining we might have to Him -- an invention of His imagination. But, He is not like us. He does not swear falsely. His word is strong. It sustains all Heavens and earth. In a sense, Heavens and earth are but a wrapping for our selves, our senses.

And God the Son is the big eye, if you will, sent from God, to relate with everyone else.

Make no mistake about it: understanding the nature of God should not be thought to be some trivial matter. It is impossible for the flesh and is possible only through being born again in the Holy Spirit.

Jesus understood God and this is why He could work all of the miracles He worked.

Though being in the very form of God He never considered exploiting that. Instead, He made Himself into a servant, even to death on a cross.

He lived nearly silent for thirty years.

What if, instead of healing people and taking rotten persecution from the mobs He created castles for himself and friends? What if He used His miracles to torment His enemies? He could have done anything, anything at all.

But, He made everything. It is not about the flesh, but about something far greater. That was his testimony.

He denied this world completely, looking for the next world, believing it.

He understood how this world worked and the next world because He remembered and was part of its' creation. As Creator.

There's no really good way to describe this, because it talks about something that's generally beyond us. But there are ways to talk about it without completely understanding it. So here are a few points.

Nicean Christianity considers God to be transpersonal. He is more than the concept of personality can quite comprehend. That is, God occupies the roles, persons, bodies locations, times and personalities of multiple persons in creation, at one time. So God's One Essence, has many Persons, at once.

This view is not unknown, and certainly not incomprehensible. Consider pantheism. Those who think there's "a spark of God in all of us" have a related concept. In the view of pantheism, God's divinity is somehow occupying all bits of the universe; yet any one bit is also still God, while the whole is also God. But in Christianity God's actual essence, His substance, is really present only in specific Persons.

In Christian writings God is revealed to us in three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They're called this because this is the best we can do to talk about how they are related to one another or to us. It can be difficult to deal with, because though the Personal relationships are analogous to a father to a son (and God represents them this way), the creational conclusions don't apply, because none of the Persons are created.

the kids in my youth group asked me the same question. I didn't answer right away, because I don't get it myself. What I eventually told them is this: Stop thinking of God as earthly. nothing on earth compares to God, and we can't possibly understand His ways and methods. we're not meant to. We don't get to understand His plan until it's revealed in Heaven at the end of our time on earth.

That's one sure way to marginalise any intelligent young person. Instead, you and the original poster should get hold of some good Christian teaching on the Trinity. There are good books available. We cannot properly understand what our salvation is all about unless we understand who God is. Nor can we fully appreciate what we are as humans without understanding God, as we are made in His image.

We cannot just put aside the many statements Jesus made about His relationship with the Father, such as "If you have seen me you have seen the Father". That is choosing to ignore something Jesus and the NT writers believed we should understand.

John 20:17 – Jesus said unto her “Touch me not, for I am not yet ascended to my Father, but go to my brethren and say unto them that I ascend unto my Father, and your Father, and to my God, and your God.”

Then, when Jesus returned after going before Father God:

Matthews 28:18 – “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” In John you will note that the disciples were, now, allowed to touch him.

Father God gave His son, Jesus, power over heaven (not the heavens) and earth (not the universe). Jesus is our God in full compliance with God the Father. Jesus our Lord operates so totally in God’s word that he and the Father are of one body – “When you have seen me you have seen the Father.”

remember that Jesus is both fully human and fully God... so that in the sense that he is the Son, the Bible speaks of a relational aspect occurring within the Trinity, a relationship that exists between Jesus and Yahweh. There is a oneness that exists between Jesus, Yahweh and the Holy Spirit... they are the same being, but God is not limited spatially to any one area, so Jesus can be where ever He is yet still be one in essence with the Father and the Holy Spirit. But Jesus is not His own Father, nor His He His own Son. Remember, God was a Trinity before Jesus ever came to earth to take on the human form, where he became a servant. So the Son has eternally existed with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Since all 3 have eternally existed it is impossible that God literally "began" to have a Son in the sense that the Son began to exist at some point in time and space. Yahweh and Jesus and the Holy Spirit are distinct but not separate. There is where we get hung up... we are used to thinking of persons as totally separate entities... where there is one being, one human being, there is one person. We see other beings like animals and we know that while there is one being, say a dog, there is still no person. However with God we have a totally unique situation and we, as humans, are used to thinking in terms of relating "person" to a single being. But with God we have a being that is single and yet at the same time is 3 in person. Unusual? Yes. Impossible logically? no.

Also, its not that Jesus is a Son in the same way a human family has a son... if you get bogged down in trying to compare apples to apples when it comes to humans and the interpersonal dynamics within the Trinity, well there will be difficulties. Jesus is not a son in the same way humans have sons. Jesus is not the Son in the sense that He cannot also be God. For instance, you are somebody's daughter. Suppose that you are married (you may or may not be, I did not look at your age etc), well that would also make you a wife. But can someone come along and say "hey!! you can't be a wife... you are a daughter!"...? No, of course they couldn't rightly say that, or they could but we would all agree that it would not make much sense for them to say this, simply because you can be both a daughter and a wife, though each in their own respective senses. Well the same is true of Jesus. He is God, but He is also, as far as His relationship to Yahweh is concerned, the Son.

blessings,
ken

Jesus is not GOD he is the son of GOD that was denied for being that one true spirit that originated out of love, he was GODS' Spirit, and he came to set everyone at peace, they couldnt understand him so they killed him for no purpose, in the sadness we give him honor and since he was GODS' Spirit, we know that nobody just dies for nothing, so Jesus was a selfless man who was innocently killed for only one purpose to over power the sinners and forgive us of our sins, therefore the crucifixion of Jesus Christ is a Catastrophic Phenomenon, meaning things like that happen only once and he was that only once, that mustard seed is that entire process of how at one point in life there was this man named Jesus Christ who was going across the world and teaching converting the minds of all those to see in his light for he is the truth and the way, if we believe we receive the holy spirit and we have Jesus living in us, so we are exactly like Christ in all honesty if you truly believe this is called everlasting life and this is the same thing Jesus was giving but in an unexplained concept, his feeling and presence he brought amongst all those he encountered created peace, and those who tried and condemned him where hard hearted and stuck in their way for they couldnt comprehend that it was their time to extinguish there place of power and see that we were trying to create unity amongst each other but they were so used to violence and injuring and putting life to end that they were dumbfounded to this type of comprehension, and its taken this long to actually write the truth out as I have just done, many will not believe me and the same process happens over and over again, and thats why we are called Christians because we do not deny this truth, GOD talks to us every day and Jesus guides us, I am the holy spirit, GOD BLESS and AMEN
