Can we really commnunicate directly with Christ?

Hi all. Can we really still commnunicate directly with Christ? He died 2000 years ago as we know but when some of us say he appeared to us in a vision of some sort well, there is no way to verify this or is there? How can we distinguish between our own self-suggestion / imagination as oppose to direct, real experience of communication?

I don't think he speaks until we know him in his word first. and it is us lot until we do know him.. but he is so awesome he can even use our ignorance and our
"stuff and things " to motivate us to know him better ..
and knowing HIM that takes a lot of study. the better we listen and study and find him .. ( knock seek find) the more we understand what he is saying !
then once we know him in his word/ by his breath/ he can use ALL the Balaams A@@ in our lives and around us to speak through anything and once in while we get to be a Balaams A@@ too. and those are such proud moments..

I have an example of a friend who isn't really a christian but got a word from god and didn't know what it meant. and miss interrupted it once she was told what it meant.

the spirit of God is all around us, interpreting it is the really hard part.. seeing things spiritually is easy even natural to some people so gifted with those gifts be they redeemed or not. .

What our minds perceive, tends to follow our individual psychological needs. If we really want to believe something and have a strong need to, we will manufacture our own perceptions that these things are real.

We have all heard of the folks who claim they were taken aboard alien space ships and were probed with medical instruments and then returned to their homes. Under hypnosis, they recollect their personal perceptions perfectly and also pass lie detector tests. Cases like this, show the power of the mind, when we really want and need to believe something to be true.

but he could've been wrong about that, " word"? How would he know it was God and not just his own self-suggestion?

You can't tell the difference. That's the problem.

A feeling that you 'just know' something isn't a reason in favour of it being true. Such a feeling could be psychological too.

I don't have an answer for you but I agree with the poster that stated that "you will know." I know it was not psychological.

How does his death 2000 years make it less likely for Him to communicate with us? Don't you know/believe that He also rose again from the dead at the third day?

In my case, I actually kept my mind open, which is why I was able to accumulate knowledge, that caused me to not be a Christian anymore after 40 years of being one.

I already had two degrees and now have two more and working on a doctorate. I guess I kept my mind open also.

Well, I see the changing of one's mind when new information is learned, a sign of strength, not weakness.

I could be wrong and admitting the same is also a sign of a healthy mind IMO. When I ask many Christians, if they could ever be wrong about their belief, they will say absolutely not, they know 100% that they are correct. Now, I understand the psychology behind the need to claim a faith belief is 100% certain and it is common place.

Again, we all have different psychological needs and they do change throughout our lives. If believing in a God makes one a better person and allows them to cope with life better, than that is the best route for them. Some who believe in a God, use it as a weapon, but that is another story for another thread.

It wasn't meant as a jab, it was meant to talk about the reality of the situation, in regards to myself.

I don't see why you would take it as a jab, that others have gone the opposite direction as you.

a word was spelled out in her vision.. and she saw it and heard nothing else. she investigated the spelling and called me when it was a rare word from the bible.

I am not going to tell you the word or her or mine interpretation of that world.. it is none of your business.
Jesus did many works and most of the people watching didn't believe even blind eyes seeing and limbs grew. so I doubt there is anything I will say that will fix what needs to be fixed with your beliefs.
