The God of Christianity is eternal and self-existing, the Alpha and the Omega. He had no beginning, and He will have no end. The Universe had a beginning; God did not.

Because science has proven that it had a definite cause to its beginning. If you want to argue that the Universe began from quantum fluctuations, then my questions to you are: what was there to fluctuate, and why did the qf's produce a Universe rather than something else, and at that particular time?

An infinitely old life, whether a single individual or something like a species or series of species, operating in a system capable of generating universes, is likely to be indistinguishable from a god.

1) It would be lacking all of the unique attributes of God, so no it wouldn't and 2) Where did the system capable of generating universes come from?

My understanding is that the laws of physics don't permit for matter/energy to come into existence from absolute nothingness nor can matter/energy be destroyed.

In the postulation that there is a Divine Creator who is First Cause and Origin of all material existence which comes ex nihilo the physical laws of the cosmos aren't relevant since the postulation is a non-scientific, theological one where the cosmos comes into existence by Divine fiat.

The above theological proposition does not exclude the Big Bang as the first moment(s) of the cosmos, but speaks of ultimate origin and cause at a theological level.

Correct, assuming God has a beginning. The Christian position is that God has no beginning, God's being is unoriginate. Therefore unoriginate existence can be uncaused cause; if the universe is unoriginate than it is its own uncaused cause; but if the universe has some ontological origin then it must have a cause.

That would be an example of infinite regression. In order to escape from it, we'd need to go back to a time where there was nothing before - hence the "uncaused cause".

I'm kidding, but some of the other users (with better knowledge of the universe than I) have tried to answer this already. I don't know much about physics, so I can't really add much to the discussion here.

Your reasoning is faulty. Quite simply because God - unlike the universe - had no beginning, and so does not need a cause. You see, time itself would have begun along with matter and space at the beginning of the universe. Since God, by definition, is the creator of the whole universe and therefore time itself He is not limited by the time dimension that He created. Hence, He has no beginning in time. The logical conclusion, therefore, is that He does not have or need a cause. God "just is," or as He puts it: "I AM."

Uh, because it's a logical absurdity that cannot exist in either logical reasoning or in reality.

It takes a lot more blind faith to believe that the universe has an uncaused cause than it does to believe that an omnipotent God spoke the universe into existence ex nihilo (i.e. from nothing) by His power.
