  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Can someone interpret this?

"A person who pays any attention at all to dreams is like someone who tries to catch shadows or chase the wind."

What is this apocrypha verse (Sirach 34:2) saying? Is it saying that most dreams are pointless? Is it contradicting scripture and saying dreams never have meaning? Is it saying that dreams are not real events? What does this mean?

I think the context is helpful here (v6 in particular). Also, notice who the passage is addressed to.
34 Foolish people are deceived by vain hopes, and dreams get them all excited. 2 A person who pays any attention at all to dreams is like someone who tries to catch shadows or chase the wind. 3 What you see in a dream is no more real than the reflection of your face in a mirror. 4 What is unreal can no more produce something real than what is dirty can produce something clean. 5 Dreams, divination, and omens are all nonsense. You see in them only what you want to see. 6 Unless the Most High has sent you the dream, pay no attention to it. 7 Dreams have misled many people; they put their faith in them, only to be disappointed. Sirach 34:1-7

It means not to pay any attention to the games people play to try to deceive you about the knowledge of God.

Eph 4:14 That we be no more children, tossed by the sea, and carried about with every wind of instruction, by the game of dice of men, and intelligence, whereby they lie in wait to the pursuit of knowledge.

I don't see any reason to complicate scripture with apocrypha scripture. There's a reason why it's called that. It's a subset of Biblical scripture that has not been authenticated by the Lord as he did the Bible. Same with the Book of Enoch. I liken it to reading the Inquirer to get news.

You can see this in Joseph, a dream sealing his own instruction

Job 35:15-16 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed; Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,

Mat 2:13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:

Even in respects to the vision given Peter (his instruction) which pertain to the Gentiles, and Cornelious vision (with his own instruction) they two (by the same) had instruction and come together. These being obedient to their visions (before the Lord). Same as with Paul and Ananias brought together. And Paul being instructed in his visions (which were for himself).

Acts 26:19 Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision:

So he sealeth their own instruction up, and Paul's vision wasnt someone elses, or for someone else but for himself, and so when folks have dreams and visions they want you to listen to, hear and follow (and you havent receive any such thing) stay far far away from that lol
