Do you think Satan or Demons or Evil can stop you from converting?

Can they try and prevent you converting???

This is a sincere question.

No, Satan has no power which God does not give him.

For example, in the opening chapters of Job you see Satan needs to come before God and ask for permission to take away Job's possessions.

One day the angels came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them. The LORD said to Satan, "Where have you come from?"
Satan answered the LORD, "From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it."
Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil."
"Does Job fear God for nothing?" Satan replied. "Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land. But stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face."
The LORD said to Satan, "Very well, then, everything he has is in your hands, but on the man himself do not lay a finger."
Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.

Another good verse to quote on this subject, which answers your question directly, is Romans 8:38-39,

I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Satan rebelled openly in the presence of God Himself. He's not exactly going to "play by the rules". YES if He doesn't want you converting He will try and stop you any way He can. But really if you are thinking of converting yet having doubts, you should look upon those as conflicts within yourself and address them as such BEFORE you decide to join a church or convert or whatever.

They will attempt to. After some time you may recognize the attempts.

Mat 13:4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:

Mat 13:19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.

When you hear the word of God and begin to believe, the enemy will try to persuade you to disbelieve.

Dear DavinMochrie. NO, Satan or any of his evil minions can stop you from Converting. They will try, but remember that Jesus vanquished Satan on Golgotha, and Satan is trying hard to make us believe all his evil lies and craftiness. Satan has no power over us, and will flee from us, if we resist him. How do we resist him? by giving him no chance to plant his thoughts into our mind, we brush them away. Jesus is always ready to hear our call for help. I say this humbly and lovingly, DavineMochrie, and send greetings. Emmy, your sister in Christ.

Don't worry about Satan trying to stop you from converting and just accept Jesus in your heart. With Jesus Satan has absolutely no power. Conversion starts with a simple prayer asking Jesus into your heart, with sincerity. Don't allow evil to hold you when you ca nexpell with truth and and the power of Christ.

Davin:

Satan will try his hardest to hinder someone from converting. Here is one such example from scripture:

"And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Barjesus: Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God. But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith. Then Saul, (who is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him, And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand. Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord."(Acts 13:6-12)

Aside from direct opposition, Satan will attempt to hinder people from turning to Christ through "false prophets", "false teachers", "false apostles" and "wolves in sheep's clothing". In other words, don't drop your guard when around professing Christians. You will know a tree by its fruits. Take care and may God give you wisdom.

This is a sincere question.
C.S. Lewis wrote a good book, called The Screwtape Letters, which is purely ficiton, but he paints a very nice picture of how something like this could happen. Basically the book revolves around letters from one demon, to his Uncle, wherein he reports his progress on tempting a soul away from God and asks for advice. I actually found the book quite scary, in the sense of how real it seemed because everything that he wrote I had at one stage or another thought of, done, or been tempted by. It was like I was getting an insight into the forces behind the scenes. He also answers some questions in it and there is some humour too.

I don't know a great deal about spiritual warfare. It's a side I find hard to imagine or relate too, which is something else C.S. Lewis touches on in his book. The demon Screwtape tells his cousin to convince his pateient that everything in the world is so 'orginary'. So that the patient cannot see God in anything. When he looks at a brick outside the window, it's just a brick. Nothing else, it looks really basic, really ordinary and there is nothing fantastical about it. Through things like this he is convinced there is no God, as we are masters of our lives and destinies. Anyhow, I think we can be swayed one way or another. Just as God is working for our salvation, I believe satan is working for our damnation, and separation from God. For the most part, I don't think he has to do very much, as we are born innately evil anyway, he just stokes the fires of our desires and leads us down paths that go anywhere except to God. We do the rest.

Often when I do something I am very aware of a 'pull' or 'desire' to do something else. It's that presence, or voice if you will, that I feel is the Holy Spirit in me guiding my life. I know I feel nothing when I ignore it, and go another road, which I do sometimes. Yet when I listen and follow it's guidance, I often feel at peace and content. The more I listen, the better my relationship is with God I think.

The more I neglect it, the more (as the Bible says) I sear my conscience. The more I convince myself I am fine without it and the more I justify my actions regardless of their outcome. I remember a time when that feeling was all but dead to me, the first time I felt it and felt truly good about having done something, I just knew, this is it. This is the way I am meant to live and I want this. :)

The world, which is not of faith and God, will often throw things your way to tempt you into doing things that are contrary to what you think you should do, yet are very much what you want to do. Paul said it best, when he despaired and asked why he does what he hates, and yet doesn't do what he knows he should. The stronger the Holy Spirit in you, the easier it becomes and the better life gets.

I still regret not being able to do some things, yet I feel that's just a weakness on my part, there is nothing in the world that I will trade for salvation though. :) I mean that literally.

Just be aware of what you are presented with, what you want to do and why. Confusion and doubt do not come from God.

Cheers,
Digit

Oh, they can try, with doubts etc.

But they can't stop one from coming to Christ.
