How glad I am that Pascha and Easter won't be the same weekend again for many years? I have had it with people who have to comment on every single Easter/Pascha posting about the supposedly "pagan origins of Easter," "Jesus never told us to celebrate His resurrection...." For me, the two being on the same weekend really took away from the joy of Pascha.

As one seeking to convert to Eastern Orthodoxy I think I will find it challenging having Pascha/Easter on two different dates. My family are not practicing Christians of any tradition, but there will be an expectation that I join in certain traditions with them at the time that the Western Easter falls. I also think it would be good if all who seek to follow Christ, even if they haven't discovered the fullness of Orthodoxy, could celebrate the risen Lord at the same time.

See - I like that most years I can go home and visit with my family for Easter, but be home in my home parish for Pascha.

And since I don't want to start another thread - I found out this weekend my name has still not been taken off the membership lists of my former Quaker meeting even though I requested it last August. I find this very annoying. I have a theory it is because they don't want to have to say why I left membership for fear that it might cause others to start investigating Orthodoxy. When you're talking about a body that has about 50 active members total when 10% leave for one particular church it kind of causes people to take notice.

at the risk of lowering the tone, this is how Pascha feels when it falls after Easter
Love German chocolate!

"Chocolate, half price!"
I am unhappy.

Two years ago they decorated the tables at Pascha with scattered egg-shaped M&Ms that were small malted milk candies with chocolate on them and of course colored candy shells. They were yummy! Last year at Easter I had to buy several kinds of tiny "eggs" before I discovered it was the M&M kind I liked. I bought two bags. This year I remembered it was M&Ms I wanted, so didn't bother with any other kind, but checked a number of stores, never finding them. Finally on Easter (figuring now or never) I checked online only to learn I couldn't find them because they've been discontinued.

They always seem to discontinue my favorite candy, shampoo, deodorant, sauce, whatever. Who keeps pulling all the really good stuff?

Snickers Dark was the last good "mainstream" candy bar and I haven't seen one is about three years.

(The Hershey's bar with mint cookie bits from about 15 years ago was good too!)

Hershey's ?

Anastasia - go for good chocolate - Lindt 80% !!
Indeed ... I'm not sure when I last had Lindt but I remember it as better.

My point was that there are so few "regular" candy bars worth eating, and when they DO make one, it generally disappears.

Now I might look for Lindt if I can get a ride to the store and am able to get in to shop anytime soon. I really do need a better variety of "easy to eat" things that include some protein. Nurse fussed at me for making meals of applesauce and crackers, lol. I'm frustrated on that count because I just found out the date given for my follow-up was the wrong day, and my daughter took of work to help me, but now it won't work to get me there, so no groceries either.

But I think I'll put chocolate on my grocery list.

I haz Holy Fire, and am taking it to Virginia - along with two dogs. Wish me luck not setting ourselves, our dogs, or our car on fire, and that the fire doesn't go out.
Good luck!

Do you have a lantern? I usually take a glass sided lantern with a candle, hung from the mirror, to transport the flame. The difficult part is keeping my actual Pascha candle lit, in the open, but for moving flame, I'd use a lantern.

Where is the fire from, did you go to Yerushalayim or did someone bring it back for you?

You have ALDI, may have LIDL in the USA...they do a fine range of continental chocolate.
Whenever I travel I treat those stores like a European Consulate.

Ah, no ALDI of LIDL near here. I have Wal-mart, Target, Publix, Walgreens, CVS. But there are fancy chocolates in those stores - a few anyway. I just usually avoid those aisles, lol.

Brookstone with fruit or nuts is pretty good?
