My boss recognized my distress at the recent passing of my Uncle and how there will be no funeral or memorial services as that part of the family are largely atheists. He suggested that I might have a mass said for him. Is this possible?
Yes it is. Just set it up with your parish office. Donations are usually the norm.

You can, the priest can say no, but they usually do not.

Canon 901 allows for the priest to offer a mass for anyone, living or dead, Catholic or not. But you must inform him that it is a non-Catholic because he can not mention him by name in the Eucharistic prayer part of the mass if that is the case because of the unity of belief lacking concerning the Eucharist. So he can not be mentioned during the Eucharistic Anaphora. So you need to inform the priest because he will have to omit the name during that part.
