  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, let me put my answer this way:

Christianity could survive without a Bible. If every Bible disappeared all at once, the Church would go on and the faith would endure.

Having said that, since Christianity could go on without a Bible, then I guess it could go on without the pope too.

But neither one will happen because both the Bible and the Papacy were created by God and both will survive until Christ returns for His Bride - Holy Mother Church

Will Orthodox and Protestants be included?

Jeremiah 7:34 And I cause to cease from cities of Y@huwdah and from streets of Y@ruwshalaim voice of elation and voice of rejoicing, voice of bridegroom and voice of bride, that to desolation the Land shall become.

Reve 18:23 and light of a lamp shall not no be appearing in thee still, and voice of bridegroom and of bride not no should be being heard in thee still, that the merchants of thee were the great ones/grandees of the land, that in the sorcery of thee were deceived all the Nations

Sure. But Jesus may ask you why you rejected the shepherd he left in charge. What will you say? "Ooops"?
:D Only from a RC.........
Why would He ask me that since I never rejected Him. ;)

1 Corinthians 2:6 Wisdom yet we are speaking in the ones mature. Wisdom yet not of the Age, the-this, nor of the Chiefs/arcontwn <758> of the Age, this, the ones-being-abolished/kat-argoumenwn <2673> (5746).

Don't you think He all ready knows out heart condition and who walks pure before him...He knows who are proud and boastful and who walk in meekness before Him...You choose believe he is to lord over the whole flock...We choose not to..The whole idea of the church being conciliar was to hold each other accountable not to have one lord it over the rest..Interesting how many popes went astray and all the corruptness that went on..

What if he says to you that you came close to making an idol out of the memory of that shepherd whose faithful work was completed 2000 years before you came along? Will you say "Ooops?"

The fact of the matter is that he probably isn't going to say either of these things because our relationship to Him is what matters, not the mountain of little myths and embellishments we humans have erected around the straightforward message of the Gospel as found in John 3:16.

I do appreciate your sense of humor,... ("Christianity could survive without a Bible.") - taking the Bible hostage to defend the Pope,... this is better than the movies.

And that harmonizes with the individual's own responsibility for self-discipline both emotionaly & intellectualy to help keep our our consciences clean and our own backs from sliding. It also follows the first century pattern where community consensus holds the greater authority over ecclesiastical (not doctrinal) authority.

Yeah, having to leave your palace to go sit outside for a while. Yeah, that's pretty bad.

Actually, I don't know about Benedict's situation, but I do remember watching a documentary several years ago that showed the apartment that JPII lived in. It was nothing like a palace. In fact, I suspect most of my fellow Americans would refuse to live in such a place. Tiny little place with broken air conditioning, massive roof leaks and concrete floors.

Actually it isn't as small as my sometimes faulty memory recalled, however you can see from the renovations Benedict had done, the previous Popes were not living in luxury.

Why does the apartment of the Pope have to be a secret? Are there any photos of it anywhere?

......of the remodeling were considered secret, but they emerged in the sideways fashion typical of the Vatican. When Bruno Bartoloni, a veteran Vatican correspondent for the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, went to have his hair cut recently, he found himself seated next to a talkative member of the restoration team........

That I don't know. I don't imagine they make a habit of blasting inside pictures of the Pope's apartment all over the intartubes, but who knows what a google search could find.

Sure it can! :) The pope is not the moral authority for all Christians and he is not the doctrinal authority for all Christians either. All the Church needs to survive is Jesus.:clap:
