This poll is not directed to either side. I want to know, if given enough information about a certain subject, evidence for a theory, or interpretation of a scripture, anyone would be open to changing their mind. I'm not saying you have to, I just want to know if there's any possibility of change and if there is what would make you do so?

Yes, I do realize this doesn't have that much potential to develop, but I figure it's worth a shot.

Nothing I know of. (Well, duh!)

I think I could say I am willing to work through opposing views and give them the benefit of the doubt for that limited purpose.

But, other than saying I will do whatever God tells me, I don't exactly have a good answer for your question. I mean we are talking about some pretty fundamental beliefs here. If they were so easily abandoned (short of God speaking), what are they worth?

We also had an extension discussion about how an a priori belief works. There comes a point when you really have to face the arbitrariness of your decision from a logical perspective. All else that helps you to receive the Word is the Holy Spirit. So, I am not exactly sure whether you and I would be talking apples and apples here. I inherently mistrust human logic as a SOLE basis for that choice of a prioris.

It seems to me that Paul was very much open to his mind being changed by evidence, in 1 Cor 15 he says that if Christ has not been risen then our faith is futile. Paul acknowledged that a physical event occurring in history had a direct impact on his theology. To say that one who never change their mind is to ascribe infallibility to one's own understanding rather than to God's revelation.

As a scientist, I LOVE to change.

Juvenissun, with so many scientists claiming on tv that they can disprove the Bible through science, it's good to see that there are many that do believe. Can you give a believing scientists view on Christianity? I love talking to those who are educated and believe, because so many say i'm ignorant for believing in God, Jesus, the Bible, exc.

I am open to other views. I believe in evolution now but could be persuaded to young earth (which i used to believe) or old earth creationism.

To me whether or not humans evolved or how old the earth is, doesnt affect that i believe christ died for our sins because God loves us

I'm always open to change. Not eveyone likes change, but I like to point out that if such people had never been open to change, they would still wear diapers. :)

Interesting thread, thanks for the input everyone.

I'm also a scientist, and as such I actively seek to refute my beliefs (I certainly know that my peers are going to when I publish something, so its self-defence really).

The quote from Paul was interesting. If Christ did not rise from the dead...

Got me thinking. One of the things you have to do as a scientist is to consider alternate explanations. When you have two explanations you devise an experiment to decide between them. You decide what the criteria are before doing the experiment.

So, if anybody is brave enough to answer. What evidence would it take to convince you there is no God? Extra kudos if your answer isn't something you know full well already... :)

I don't think there is any amount of evidence. I think very much that the Teleological Argument contests to the absolute truth that God exists. The world is too intricate and beautifully simple at the same time. I also think that the concept of a "beginning" or any notion of time was also created inside this universe and does not apply to God, leaving him eternal and needless of a beginning.

I admit that I have not studied philosophy as much as I would like to and thusly may have several holes in my thinking, but luckily for me Colossians tells us that's a sin (;) inside joke). I would love to hear from my fellow TE's about their opinions of the absolute and eternal state of God.
