• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does OCD mess with your feelings? I struggle with the intrusive, UNWANTED thoughts but now Im dealing with this OVERWHELMING feeling of hopelessness. at times I cant tell if its fear, depression, or anxiety.I think it comes because of the struggle of doubting my salvation. one of the things I have been doing praying God's word back to him regardless of the feelngs. but I dont want that to become a complusion. this feeling at times is so overwhelming u think u might go crazy. has anybody gone through this and again does OCD mess with your feeling like that?

Yes it does. When my OCD is bad not only do I feel more stressed, but I feel like I'm beginning to lsoe the will to go on. When it's not I do not feel like that. I can relate to the salvation thing, and I understand how hard it is to develop a positive relationship with the Lord and to have joy in fellowship with Him when you feel as if you are not saved.
I'll pray for you. It sounds like pretty basic, secular advice, but sometimes it helps me to just do something I enjoy with no religious context, like going skiing or listening to music for a while and zoning out. It doesn't solve the problem but the Lord has used pretty simple things like that to refresh me. Just pray for rest and the strength to continue and I think you will find that God gives it to you.

Some days are just harder than others. It is like the lies enguldf you and you feel trapped. It is even hard to come to the Lord. It really is all God's grace and His help and us being patient to wait on Him. It is a process and we need to hold on to faith even when we do not feel like it. OCD really messes with our feelings. the biggest thing is to let God's word have authority over feelings.

I can relate.

When I am having a bad day here is what I do.
I remember that my faith is built on The Rock.
I think back to the hour I was born again and that feeling of closeness that week of salvation.
I know The Living Word teaches me I can not take my salvation out of God's hand.
So no matter what my brain is telling me today - I can not move The Rock, I can not change The Truth, The Truth is 100% the truth no matter what I think.

Yea, last week I had some really ups and down with emotions and feelings close to that, especially dealing with my intrusive thoughts, God, and just feeling sad when I think about Jesus/God and wanting to be with them. It comes and goes, and you just have to muscle through it, knowing that God is on your side.
