• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I know that they say, that everyone is good at something or have a gift, but I tell ya, I have yet to find mine and I'm nearly forty yrs' old. I can't seemed to find that area were I'm just domonant, Its like I'm just average at everything. and it is flustrating to. it makes me feel that I can't be dependent on or can't really help anyone the way I would like.

I see others that are so gifted, and it makes me feel bad, and I know in my heart that God has much more for my life that to just be average. can't say that I have truely excel in life. why can't I be more passionated about something. I like cooking and writing, but even then, I'm never really at the top of my game. if you have struggle with this? how did you come out of it. and what have you discover about yourself?

Well, Jesus said that the least would be the greatest, so I think He might have been talking about folks like you. So, don't knock it, but embrace it!

Then, there is the parable of the talents. It doesn not matter which or how many gifts God gives you as long as you use the gift and allow God to be magnified through it. This does not require that you be recognized for your gift on earth, but God will recognize you in Heaven. For example, you could pray everyday. You may think that you do not pray well, but for the next fifty years, you pray faithfully every day as best as you know how. In Heaven, God may introduce you as the greatest prayer warrior in His army and you won't even know it until then.

Whatever you do, do it in the name of Christ, do it to the very best of your ability, and give God the praise and glory.

God can give you a body that can do everything and anything, or a body that is crippled up having you end up in a wheel chair. Who is the better person of these two? Who is more loved by God? Both of them are equally loved by God. You see the meaning of life is to love and help others, we are here on earth to try to replace the darkness and hatred with love and light. When you die, God will review your life compared to his measuring stick which is unconditional love.

I know from one guy who had a near death experience and was an atheist, but a champion in Football who rediculed handicapped ,and thought fat chicks where worthless, and there where only two types of people in this world, winners or losers and considered himself to be a winner.

When he died, God showed him that all these people who rediculed others where actually the ones who went backwards into the darkness in their lives. That although handicapped might not be able to do anything, their souls are like stationairy wagons, they don't go backwards or forwards but are as a result on a spiritually higher level then those who rediculed fat people and the like.

He was shown that he never thanked God for what he had in his life. He had a great body but during a football game out of all people the weakest among people made him fall and strangle his legs. This was as God said intended to humble him for his actions and show that the abilities that our body give, are only temporarily weaknesses and strenghts. The body and its capacities are a gift from God.

Although it is true that you work for your own skills. You must understand what really matters to God is that you love others unconditionally and help them during time of needs.

So in other words, it doesn't mean a thing that you cannot excel in such a way that you are the best of the best in Gods eyes for instance ,jumping high, best chef of the year or that you are able to run 1000 miles within 1 second. What matters is that you serve our lord and live for him.

That way your good deeds will be remember by God forever.

So instead of looking at the things you can't do, look at the things you CAN do in life. ANYWAY, if your still looking to be the best of the best despite what i said, do the following.

-pick a skill & stick to it. The transitions between switching skills add up to a huge waste of time.

-figure out the most efficient methods to raise your skills mainly.

-Life Is more of a test to challenge your abilities... set a goal and see if you can achieve it.

-Enjoy and have fun mainly in the constructive things you do. Set challenges for yourself and test your limits. It might even relax you.

-Remember there is no failure except in no longer trying. There is no defeat except from within, no really insurmountable barrier save our inherent weakness of purpose.

-don’t get bored and be too stubborn when it comes to achieving goals you set for yourself.

-Same thing , set challenges for yourself. severely hate having things incomplete.

These are blood goals however, so a warning goes along with them.

And that is the fundamental law of the world: to obtain, something of equal value must be lost. You cannot gain something without sacrificing something. You have to present something with the equal value to gain the thing you desire.

I understand how you feel. I am very much like you--I am average at many things. When I compare myself to others, I can become a little depressed and inadequate.

But for me I must adjust my focus not on my lack of talent, but of my lack of passion or effort. Anybody, talent or not, must have passion to pursue their goal. I strive for effort and most times I will accomplish the task because of it.

I would also like to add: I try to also focus on relationships. Because when I die, my loved one will not cherish how well I can cook, but how well I treated them. Focus on what you do have!

I hope this helps and peace be with you.

I think gifts come in different forms than we sometimes think. Perhaps you're a good friend, or maybe you've been through something that allows you to help others know they aren't alone. Those are gifts you can use. God didn't forget you, maybe you're gifted in lots of things but only think you're mediocre at them?

God doesn't want you to do grand things like walking over water, or reviving the dead. Any small act of love would be great. One simple act of unselfish love affects everyone else. A simple smile has the power to alter the course of human history. The good we do for others will eventually come back to us. The important things is that we are to help each other rise to a higher level of love. Life is about people, not pursuits. It is about loving people, not things. To know love is not enough. It must be expressed. Whatever we become in life is meaningless unless it is done for the benefit of others. The ideal is to love others completely, unconditionally, more even than we love ourselves. It is the little things that count: a small act out of unconditional love.

People can help. They can be around; often that's what others need who are going through tough times.

My ancestors emphasized that none of us was ever likely to be first in anything. Any excellence we received was never "the best".

Also, there are likely things that you don't particularly value, that you excel in. I wouldn't know what they were, but if you got into a ministry group, you might find out what those gifts are. We have one person who excels at planning events. I've never excelled in this. And I've been in awe of how she thinks ahead, plans for needs and meets them with resources.

But it can simply come down to an accomodating hospitality, or just helping. People aren't even good at serving. If you were good at that, man, I would love for you to be on a ministry team with me.

Brother sounds like you haven't embraced Jesus fully. You should not be feeling like this, Loving Jesus, is a talent, and sharing that with others makes you special, your spreading Gods Love, what better talent could their be, but giving life after death, greatest gift EVER.

I'm average too. I can type well, but that's about all I really do well. It really helped me on CF as I never pray aloud, to go to the prayer forums, and start praying for people. Whether you write it down or not, just doing that helps alot.

That's a way to start to build confidence. People might say I have no fruit, but I don't worry about those things, because I know the change in my life, and I know the inward change.

I wouldn't pressure yourself but let God lead you.

It is the inward change in us that makes a difference on the outside. I would try not to compare yourself to others, as we will always fall short.

God bless you all, Tapero
