You have not given any specific reason. Why did you say this?
Why do you ask, instead of just say:
I would have been turned off by you for not even wanting to understand, based on this.
It seems like a lot of people here make up their mind pretty quickly. Course that's probably just me.

I asked so it would force you to reflect on your own motives. I appreciate that you have done the same for me. I think I should enjoy a thoughtful conversation with you, if we are able some day.

Ok, well likewise and maybe I'll stick around for a while. I guess my motives are to be sad that I can't in all honesty call myself a member of the Christian community. I'll probably hang around for a bit like a hungry ghost.

Hysteria. Wow, how totally unexpected. I was a Christian for 46 years. I'm familiar.

Is that what you call hysteria? I don't think that was. lol.

Then as a Christian (or ex-Christian), knowing the Word you can give some examples of why you disagree. Now we can have a good conversation.

I don't disagree at all. If you are a Christian you can't be in a relationship with a non-believer.

Just to be clear, we are talking about a relationship that may be leading towards marriage. A romantic type relationship.

Not friendship. Friendship is different.

my girlfriend left me because she couldnt be in a relationship with me due to the rules or something like that, she continued to ask how i could love her if i didnt love god. please help explain these to me

That is where she is at....and you are madly in love with her.....then you love and accept her choices.

But it seems you are not there. So "the problem" is not with her.

I'm not judging your beliefs, I'm pointing out that you are not embracing her.

Yes, I understand. Christians cannot be in any relationship with non-Christians which may lead toward marriage.

The part I bolded just sounds irrelevant and silly. She shouldn't have even been involved in a relationship with a non-Christian from the get go, so the onus is on her there for even putting you in this situation.

However, Christians are not supposed to marry outside of the faith. In Orthodoxy, one will be denied an Orthodox Christian wedding/crowning if they are intent on marrying someone that isn't a Christian.

The only exception to this, scripturally, is if a non-Christian couple is married and then one coverts to Christianity after marriage. Then, they stay married at the discretion of the non-Christian member of the couple.

For the Christian, everything can be related back to communion/eucharist. Marriage is a sacrament. It is also considered a martyrdom. You deny yourself for the sake of your spouse. You also aren't joined together with someone who also isn't in communion. When one is baptized into Christ they are part of the body of Christ- the temple of the Holy Spirit- receiving Christ in the Holy Mysteries. Being joined to someone who isn't also in communion/part of the body of Christ is a serious thing to us. It's a big no no.
