The debate comes down to this: is it necessary to believe in the literal historicity of every passage of scripture to accept Christ as one's savior? I believe quite definitely that Genesis declares the truth about humanity: humans have been rebellious (preferring their own will over God's) as long as humans have been human, and probably rather before. We are all sinners in need of a Saviour. If I am required to in essence reject all of science to accept Christ, I am lost, as are about 97% of Christians outside of the USA.
