Quick question: can a Catholic priest have a beard and long hair?

Only two of the priests in my Church have a full head of hair! Fr. Ramon (my buddy!) and Fr. Reynord. They are both Parochial Vicars, does anyone know what their job is? I read it's like a assistant pastor. -shrugs- Just curious, but maybe the priests could get some rogaine? That way, they'd have hair! (Not trying to be mean, just a suggestion)

Priests don't use Rogaine for the same reasons nuns don't wear makeup. Vanity doesn't matter.

yes, they can.

In Orthodoxy, it is generally something of desire; from what I have gathered, longer hair and beard is almost like an outward sign of an inward growth in spirit and devotion, just like grey hair symbolizes wisdom in a sense.

Although, within the US, you don't see that very much, even in the Orthodox Church. It's unfortunate how much of our roots we have lost here in the US, outside of just long hair and beards.

True about the nuns not wearing makeup, I didn't know that they didn't til, I asked Sr. Jean Rene,and I am also more in contact with the Convent I visited back in January, I am planning on going back over the summer to help with a camp for children.

Of the Orthodox priests I know, in general only the full-time priests have long hair and beards. Well, they all have beards, but only the full-timers have the "I could care less what you think of my appearance" Rasputin beard. The priests who have day jobs generally have neat beards and normal hair, or maybe even a goatee. Come to think of it, my Metropolitan has a goatee.

I think more than anything having long hair and beard symbolizes a break from the superficiality of society. Plus, as someone mentioned in TAW, if you are a bishop you have to have some kind of facial hair to balance the headwear, otherwise your head looks tiny

I remember reading somewhere that priests in some positions cannot have facial hair. I think that the members of the Curia are restricted in their facial hair. I don't have any more details though.
