  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

i like tents...but anymore...i dont know. i'm getting tired of fighting off critters. last time i went camping we had coons tare through my screened in front porch on my tent. we didnt even have any food in there. not even a crumb. i dont know what their problem was. but the kept trying to get in all night. i think i would just rather get a pop-up now

I voted popup (the only one so far) but our popup resembles a tent. It's a 1968 and is a very basic 5x7 box that opens up into a canvas tent that's up off the ground; no solid roof and nothing inside but bare floor space, no crank-up lift system. Two double beds slide out the sides, not out the ends like most popups. The door is in the back, and it also has a canvas awning. We like it for it serves two great purposes: to store all our gear in and gets us up off the ground when sleeping.

I would vote camper. Though what I'm thinking of is probably closer to a pop-up than an RV. My family has one, very large for it's time. A custom camper on a 1 ton flatbed. Sleeps 6. But it is a sleeping-cooking-eating place. Drive where you are going. Do things. Saves the time of setting up and breaking down camp.

The downside is sometimes you end up in RV land and wonder just why some of the people are camping at all.

I've done tent and just a ground cloth and sleeping bag. Also camping cabins. I'm fully capable of camping with nothing but myself, but I'd rather at least have some clothes and my puppies to keep me warm.

I have been a tent camper all my life. Today I expect my new camping hammock to arrive & I'll be embarking on a new phase of my camping life. No more lumpy ground, no more muck covered ground cloths or looking for a level spot.

I am of course very excited.

I've been tent camping most of my adult life. My sister just bought a pop-up, quite luxe actually. I have several tents, and all the accessories. We have camped often on Assateague Island off the Maryland coast, you've never lived until you've woken up to a horse staring in the window at you. The bunnies, deer and quail are adorable too.

We started out with a tent then a popup and now we have a pull behind camper, I had to have a bathroom since no one would walk me to the bathhouse in the middle of the night in the dark to use the potty. LOL

Oh yeah, got the hammock and been out a few times. No more ground dwelling for me! This is the way to go:

That lil satchel held the Hammock, a top and bottom of FroggToggs, a 1 liter Camelback bottle, all the little stuff like flashlight and deet, an additional water bottle, 80' of paracord, and tent stakes. . . beautifully.

I love camping..much prefer tent to caravan - you can wake up and just stick your head out in to the fresh air.
I prefer campsites with just the most basic facilities, with grass uncut etc - I hate all laid-out campsites...especially ones that are laid-out like towms with roads runninginbetween and kind of lamp=posts. You might almost as well stay at home.

It's probably a little difficult to go camping 'in the wild' in England, though I'm sure some people do..I would imagine there'd be someone come alomg and tell you you're not allowed - shame really cos we don't have to worry about bears, cougars etc here - although there have been sighting s over the years in certain places of big cats (maybe pumas) which they think may have been kept privately by people and let out onto moors and things.

Down here In Texas we have one park that's close to me that has screen shelters. Their like a mini cabin with partial screens on the front and two sides. Their awesome- my kids and I really enjoy them. Each one comes with a picnic table, BBQ pit, porch, and a place to park your vehicle. They also have water and electricity. They only cost $25 a nite which for me is worth it. We also use our tent sometimes, but we have found the shelters alot better to fend off the coons.
