How many times have we heard that?!

Apart from the internet? Never, the average person has no clue. It's always come from non-Calvinists on the internet with some historical knowledge, however misunderstood, biased, and lacking in context and culture at the time. I feel blessed to have been born when and where I was, and wouldn't wish those extremely perilous times in Christian history on any Christian.

What is worse is the strawman caricature of Calvinism. I tell people they aren't understanding the tenents properly and they proceed to tell me that yes in fact they do. I've also found that when losing an argument they tend to resort to slandering Calvin. It would be funny if it weren't so sad and pathetic.

It's difficult to really have a meaningful conversation because people tend to be or get emotionally charged, especially when you've damaged their pride. It hurts to be wrong, I've been there probably more times than not. I've often heard people say something along the lines of, "the older I get, the more I realize my parents were right", meaning they were wrong, but didn't know/care/want to admit at the time. I like a good debate, but they often seem to encourage and or tempt pride, and I have way too much pride to be squashed without building up more. Maybe, in my experiences anyway, I found that being right, is anything but a badge of honor, it's more like a badge of pain and misery, people hate being wrong, and hate when people make them look bad even more. That said, the truth still needs to be heard, the gospel of Christ preached.
