By Charismatic I'm saying that Calvary Chapel does believe that the gifts of the Spirit are alive and in use today. You won't see them in the same way you might in a Vineyard, Pentecostal, or Word of Faith church, but they are there. :)

Ok, I read faith Warriors post - I did attend 1 CC that did have an afterglow where gifts were allowed and it was after church.
But I don't label that "Charismatic". Maybe my terms are different.
I guess if I had to put a label on it...I guess I would lean more toward "Spirit-Filled" as a better discription...but would not totally exclude "charismatic"

 :)
I'm not sure either - I associate Charismatic with more extremism all together.
I think Spirit filled is a better description too.

I’ve been involved with Calvary Chapel for 19 years. Attended the bible college at CC Vista in Calif studying biblical counseling. Worked for CC Costa Mesa for roughly two years on staff and at the main bible college/conference center. Have been involved in a lot of ministries through CC including counseling, worship leading, missions, youth ministry, and evangelism among other things.

Main emphasis of CC is to glorify God. Emphasis on worship of God through Spirit and Truth. To teach the bible systematically. Unite in fellowship to fulfill the commandment to practice love and exhortation one to another (see Heb 10:25). Emphasis on servant hood, to participate in ministries as God has gifted you for. That’s the rundown off the top of my head.

Main doctrines/philosophies are, dispensationalism, pre-trib, pre-mil, literal future 1000 year reign of Christ bodily on Earth, fundamentalism, evangelicalism, charismatic, not 5 point anything. Probably could throw more tags in there, but good enough :)

Yeah, that’s what I mean by charismatic, too.

Vineyard is actually a split from CC. They have more of an emphases on gifts etc.. far more charismatic in practice and less confined by scriptural examples of those practices.

I just recently began attending a homebased (soon to be in a building)-Calvary Chapel and I can tell you I already I love it. It is exactly what I had been looking for for quite some time now. And from what I've seen posted here, I'm even more happy about the decision to go with Calvary Chapel.

Already I've noticed the pastor is one of the most loving people I've ever met in my whole life. He and his wife both very, genuine, caring individuals with a heart for the Lord that is contagious.

He immediately began teaching from 1 John - which is as we all know GOOD GOOD stuff! Already I've noticed a marked change and improvement in my walk with Christ and that's a big PLUS!!!

I have been wondering what the Calvary Chapel's are about as far as world views and things of that nature. I am very interested in that subject matter but have decided to not make it a main focal point of my life for awhile. Not until I can regroup and do it in a loving manner and not get caught up in the "heat" of the discussions and unkind attitudes that can take place in those forums. But you guys have given me a good starting place by what I've read so far in this thread.

Thank you!
