Calvary Chapel

Just wondering if anyone out there, who is a regular attender of Calvary Chapel has some thoughts on the positives and negatives of this denomination.

I've attended several of their services in both Fort Lauderdale and Tallahassee, FL, and was considering going to a Calvary Church here in Virginia.

Anyone been going to Calvary for a long time and want to weigh in on the good points, and maybe the not-so-good points of what Calvary has to offer?

Thanks!

I like them. No they are not 5 point Calvinists although they are not of the Arminian persuasion either. They are part of the many in between. I think they try to be lead by the Spirit as much as possible while still being very sure that they stick to what is in the Bible. I love going to their services because they always have really good preaching. They go through books verse by verse. I really like them because I think they take what is the best of many different traditions and bring them together to make a better whole. That is just my opinion though.

To make sure I understand this better, Reformed means the same thing as being a five point Calvinist?  Or is there more to it then that?

If Reformed does equal five point Calvinism then Blackhawk has it correct, Calvary is not Reformed.  A book they suggest in their reading material is Calvinism vs. Arminianism.  I agree with Blackhawk's views of them plus they are my favorite church to attend (when able).

Calvary Chapel has been blessed in many ways.

I have been attending Calvary Chapel of Prescott (CCOP) for nearly 2 years now. Having been born and raised a Catholic prior to this, I can offer somewhat of a unique perspective.

I have found the fellowship of CCOP to be filled with the Spirit, loving, caring, and doing their best to love people as Christ wants us to. The services are always a blessing, and the messages always relevant.

CCOP's statement of faith is rooted in a literal, historical, and grammatical interpretation of God's Word. I am currently enrolled in their School of Ministry and the classes are the most solid, most informative, and most relevant that I've taken in my academic career.

If there are more questions, feel free to ask. :)

I was not trying to say that CC is notreformed.  Iwas just trying to show that they do not believe in 5 point Calvinism.  They are a nondenominational church so speaking eccelsiatically they are not reformed.  But they have been influenced much by reformed theology and from whatI have seen have taken some of their views from reformed theology.  But they have also taken some of their views from other traditions also.

I attended a Calvary Chapel for nearly 7 yrs that was also 7 years ago, It was great when it was where God wanted to be. One of the distinctives of Calvary Chapel is the verse by verse chapter by chapter book by book bible studies. You really begin to realize the importance of digging into God's word. I can only speak for myself but I learned a lot in those seven years the main thing I learned was how to feed myself. and how not to fall for just anything. But at the same time I became a fat sheep, also I became as a pharisee judging everyone who wasn't as familiar with scripture as I thought I was. I have since found out that I really don't know jack, when it compared to too many others, I used to think that I knew the bible what I know could not really even be compared to a drop in the bucket. that's Calvary Chapel:)
