  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Anyone here still interested in calligraphy? Or now it's all done by computers? (Thanks should go to Steve Jobs, from Apple Corp.)

I picked up a fairly expensive fountain pen, a few calligrapy markers, and a calligraphy instruction book, calledp the speedball textbook.

If anyone have experience with calligraphy, reply with any tips you have found along the way.

I don't want to take a class on it, it's a hobby.

I learned it myself from a book and I just use caligraphy markers. I had a fountain pen but it was always clogging on me and didn't work well. Probably too cheap.
I mostly use caligraphy when I'm making cards or things like that.
I'd just practice different styles you like from your book until you get better at them. My problem usually is keeping all the letters the same sizes and writing straight on paper without lines. You can practice making borders with your pens too. You can always look at a library for more books if youd' like.
An ink block and brush does sound like it would be fun to use.

My mom is really good at Calligraphy. She doesn't use it nearly as much as she did when I was a kid. My brother speaks Chinese and he's really good at traditional Chinese Calligraphy. I want him to teach me, as I can write japanese, but he never wants to. So one day I'm going to spend a bunch of money on all those supplies and teach myself.

I normally use a calligraphy pen, but if you don't have one try writing a fancy letter and writing another of the same letter just a little bit to the top right side, then fill in the spaces, it looks a lot like real calligraphy.
