  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Called to break the chains

Fear is here to protect us,
to give a warning about danger,
however, sometimes fear can
be too protective and cut us off from life.

Some fears need to be heeded,
others to be worked on and passed over,
for like overprotective parents
some fears can imprison us.

We are called to break the chains of
the sins others have done against us,
so that we may be healers instead of hurters--Br.Md

Good words. Question: How is one to distinguish between fears that are to be heeded and ones that should be passed over? Is there a guide, or maybe some feature of fear that one can point to as the distinguishing feature? I wonder how one could develop the proper discernment when it comes to distinguishing between these two kinds of fear. Just a thought.

Some fears are obvious you must listen to. Like walking dwn a dark alley in a strange city, or dangeorus part of town, if someone does not experience fear about that, they are asking for trouble.

However, if asked to do a new task, like public speaking, and one actually has the gift for it, but can't overcome their fear, then their life can be curtailed.

Also how we are taught about God can cause unfounded fears that are irrational, they need to be faced as well, through trust.

It is not easy, but inner freedom is a lifelong project, and the grace of Jesus Christ is there asking us to let go of useless baggage.

Peace
