Hi all,
There's a local Christian radio station in the Twin Cities and I feel called to work there when I get older. The job the LORD has placed upon me is radio announcer. I have a couple questions for those in full-time ministry:

1.) What is it like?

2.) How much does one make in full-time ministry?

1. It's hard work, with few tangible rewards.

2. It depends on the ministry. Some ministries pay nothing at all, others pay quite competitive salaries. Christian radio personalities on a national show can expect to make what their non-Christian peers make, but on local Christian radio, the average full-time salary is around $30,000, and few positions are full-time. In many venues, part-timers are volunteers or they make a nominal salary of around minimum wage.

Radio is something you better be called to...it pays almost nothing until you are one of the top in your market...and depending on your market it doesn't pay very much even then.

Kinda like being a musician.

If you aren't able to hold on for quite a few years of making nothing then it's probably not for you.

Don't listen to any of these people.

Radio Rules. Sure we get paid jack, but it sure bets working for a living.

I do the Afternoon drive @ CHRI-FM in Ottawa Ontario. The money's not important. The work is. If you're good, you'll build an audience and your salary will follow.
As for experience, for full time on-air work you will have to get some education and training whether at a school or at radio station part-time.

The day I got saved was the day the Lord told me where to apply. 2 months later I was working here. If the Lord says your working at that station...listen to him and prepare yourself for a wild ride. When you work for God, you're always in good hands.

Peace!
