Sorry this hasn't much todo with christianity :)

We really need to wake up and see that we are not empowering anybody!
We most stop eating up the lies they are feeding us with.
Yes this is todo with our education system.

The fact is that the matric results are modified before press release.
EVERYBODY's marks gets lifted. Mine was also. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out just go talk to any teacher in a decent school or somebody that had actually marked matric papers.

Kids are doing worst than ever before.
Talk to high school teachers for a change, when kids reach std 6 they can't sit still in class they can't do homework they can't spell. And this is in our TOP schools!

This new "Outcome based Education" is a political piece of junk! And should've been scraped LONG AGO!
They tried it out in first world countries where every kid does have a laptop and internet access and the outcome was horrible almost A whole generation that can barely read!

Please poeple I don't want my kids to go throught 12 years of schools to know nothing!

If we want this country to get up again we must have people that can do the work.. that means we must teach them todo the work.

ps. I'm not racist. This new system is actually making more damage to the black community than the white community!

Heinrich,

I'm a teacher in Australia and we use "outome based" reporting as well. It has its problems, but I don't think it's nowhere near as bad as you describe it.

I think the problem is greater than curriculum. It's about well trained and happy teachers. It's about well funded schools. It's about the rule of law being enforced.

I know a number of South Africans who have permanently moved to Australia because of the troubles. I hope and pray that your nation (which I respect greatly) does not spiral down into Zimbabwe-style activity.

Of course, you could always migrate to Australia? (Legally, of course)

Look we are gonna have a big bunch of people getting out of school who think they know someting but actually don't.
This is not my problem actually, I'm well educated and so on. But there are millions in this country that have the illusion that they are educated.
This makes me sad because these people are cheated because of some political game.

And nope I'm staying in SA thanks :)

I agree with neilinoz. It is probably more a problem with the school administration (national) and funding etc.

I think that there has always been a normal distribution of marks in the past (and not only in SA).

I agree that there has been a lot more controversy this year than previously, but I do not think the education systerm has spiralled yet. Standards may be lower than previously in the traditional "white" areas, but I know that they are certainly higher in the traditional "black" areas.

Even in the US people complain about education systems - that is why home schooloing is becoming increasingly more popular.

My posting this has very little todo with "just this year"
This year is actually just a bit more scary than previous years.

Yes there is a funding problem. And there is a MAJOR lack of maths/science teachers in the country.

And just lifting the marks is just half of it. They mark incredibly easy and the papers are easier each year.

When I wrote matric 2 years back we had some local papers (Western cape) and some national. The national papers where easier by far. And infact our local papers where also easier than a few years back but not that much.

Most children from other regions struggle with western cape papers.. esp maths.

And have you talked to a high school teacher that teaches grade 8 maths?
They will tell you that children coming from the "outcome base education" knows just about nothing.

I don't think this is gonna change very soon but this new education system is not really the big success there making it to be.

Well, I am very sorry to hear about the education system as it is today. I will call it the growing pains of the country. The situation is of course not a surprise because it was always bad. I too am a south african and edured large class sizes, first year teachers, strikes and a lack of text books, uniforms and writing materials. Now I see at least other educational institutions are experiencing the same thing.

I have no regrets about the education I recieved, someone else decided the school I could only go to and also where I could live. Now I have the chance to go to university and my lack of money will not stop me, as my colour did back in the day.

Sticking out the growing pains.

It looks like it has been a while since anybody from our country has posted anything. I hope you guys will come back and we can chat a bit.

Heinrich, to come back to what you have sid about our education in this country, I could not agree more. I have a sister in Grade 11 and her level of understanding reminds me of when I was in standerd 6. I still think she has got more brains than I ever had, but we both did an IQ test and hers is now lower than mine. What does this mean? Why would the government not care about this? I think you will find the answer in Screwtape Letters by CS Lewis. It is an excellent book. What bothers me more is that this thing seems to bothering you to much. I always say that you must lay your worries on God. After that you pray and if the Lord leads you to do something about it, then do it. If not, you can still pray. Remember that we are asked in the Bible to pray for our countries leaders.

Do not let this get you down. God Bless.
