• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Caffeine pills

I know that I shouldn't, but every time I have a problem, I reach for the caffeine. I can get to this point where I don't feel anything if I have enough of it. Everyone around me says I should stop, but... It's legal, so why? What is so wrong with wanting a little peace? I don't know what I'm doing, honestly. Some days I feel like I should quit, but some days all I can think is that I would never get by without them...

If that's the way you feel (never get by w/o them), seems like a good reason to quit. I feel the same way about my smoking cigs though.

Well, for starters, just because it's a legal drug, doesn't mean that it's right to abuse it. Look at alcohol abuse. Furthermore, you are likely damaging your body and possibly your mind. Nobody here can talk you into quitting, but you will reach a point where all the pills in the world won't help you get numb. Your body will be so tolerant. Believe me, I'm there. I was an abuser for many, many years and all it caused me was heartache and physical problems. I do hope you decide to quit...
God bless...

I started with caffeine at a young age as all children do through pop and soforth. I graduated to speed at age 14 and abused caffeine pills as well. At 16, I was snorting cocaine, I went from a half gram a day, to 7 grams a day in a matter of 8 months. I ended up spending almost $2000 a week on cocaine. I went to jail for robbery, went to rehab for a year, relapsed, and became a heroin addict at age 18 which lasted for almost a year until I cleaned up, got my life together, and accepted Christ. Beware your addiction, if you are an addict with an addictive personality, your addiction can have the power to bring you to your knees if you abuse drugs. Be careful. Get some help, stop it while you still can on your own and before you hit serious consequences of escalated drug use and abuse.

Just a little note about caffeine - withdrawals can be nasty, especially for heavy users. Even coffee/cola drinkers can suffer when giving up 'cold turkey' although you do come out of the other side none the worse for wear...

Perhaps the key in this case is to moderate your caffeine use by cutting back over a period of time. If you really feel it's time to stop, I suggest you talk it over with a health professional who can guide you through it!!

Good luck, keep us posted!

God bless xxxx
