  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

can anyone recommend any good c.ds to buy- they can be any music type and old or new????

I'd recommend Silhouette Brown's self-titled album. They're from the UK (looks to make sure I'm right) The Brand New Heavies, and The Underwolves. If you're interested, IM me or simply email me and I'd be more than happy to zip it up and send it ur way.

I would highly reccommend absolutely anything by Sir Elton John, the Mozart of our generation.

Rare Masters, The Very Best of Elton John, To Be Continued (Box set), Goodbye Yellowbrick Road, Madman Across the Water, Love Songs, Greatest Hits, Live In Australia With The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (this is one of the best live performances that I have ever heard), The One, Made in England, Songs from the West Coast (this album goes back to his 70's sound), and of course Peachtree Road.

The above is just a partial listing of his large catalogue. Eltonography is a great site to look through his albums and lyrics.

D'oh! How can I forget his godson! Sean Lennon (John and Yoko's son) put out a really good debut album a few years ago called Into the Sun. He avoids the pop sound of his father, and being the son of Yoko does have it's musical advantages. How ironic that is lol. Also, Julian Lennon put some great CDs including Valotte and Photograph Smile.

Im going to give various metal recommendations (from me? what else?)

1. Children of Bodom - Hate Crew Deathroll
sure the lyrics might not be the best, but who cares? the music is awsome and mind blowing on this album. Alexi Laiho does some impossible stuff on that there guitar and the keyboardist often keeps up with him on harmony solos.
2. Nightwish - Once
good ol power metal here, with opera style vocals from Tarja and background (and foreground) music from an orchestra (if you've ever heard Trans Siberian Orchestra, then you'll know what im talking about). Great music, stuff metalheads and even grandma can fall in love with
3. In Flames - Colony
prime example of melodic death metal. Vocals might put you off at first, but these kind of vocals grow on you, so if your not used to em, don't put down the cd because of it. Again, good music, not overly heavy but very melodic (as the genre gets it name)
4. Arch Enemy - Wages of Sin. now these guys are unique. Awsome melodic death with a femal vocalist, that growls! Yeah, sounds awkward, but she can do it quite well. Again, people not used to the genre might not like the vocals, but even if you never soften up to her vox, the music more than makes up for that. The amott bros are musical geniuses.
5. Emperor - IX Equilibrium
Black metal, pure black metal. Now the effort of this genre is to produce a mood, hence the guitars aren't too 'out there' as say, the keyboards are. But anyway, it produces a sound reminiscent of an orcestra, but instead of using violins and french horns, this 'orchestra' uses distortion guitars and brum blasts. Good stuff, but to some may produce an 'evil' mood. But its all opinion

All of these bands are from the Scandinavian region (finland, sweeden) and Arch Enemy is from Austria. And if you think this metal is like american made stuff, then you must be sorely wrong.

Carcass - Symphonies of Sickness
Darkthrone - A Blaze In The Northern Sky
Demilich - Nespithe
Disembowelment - Transcendence into the Peripheral
Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse
Fear Factory - Soul of a New Machine (although i like the vocals and guitar tone on Concrete better)
Feindflug - Hirnschlacht
Funker Vogt - We Came to Kill
Godflesh - Streetcleaner
Hypocrisy - Osculum Obscenum
Iced Earth - Night of the Stormrider
Laibach - Nova Akropola
Metallica - ...And Justice For All
Napalm Death - Scum
Repulsion - Horrified
Samael - Worship Him
Scorn - Plan B
Sunn O))) - 00 Void, or Flight of the Behemoth

of these, Transcendence would have to be my favorite of all time. if you want to hear a little of it, my sound file is part of the first track
