So yes, I have worked out what the utility of design, is. If you have a definition of your "design", you are able to compare that "design", with mutations, whether you have enough strength to meet the pressure put on you by mutation. Where you cannot handle the pressure, the mutation can be isolated and tested again, or eliminated. "Design" has a pro-health benefit.
The pro-health benefit, extends to all aspects of a creature's life. If a mutation creates sickness of some kind or other, the ability of a creature to isolate, what is and isn't "design" allows the creature to reassign the mutation, to be preferred for elimination the more so, if it affects the creature even more (when it is reassigned). In computer terminology this is like having the history function for your web searcher; or an imaging function for your hard drive. You are able to back up, if you forget where something is, or back out if something goes wrong with a particular change (in that order respectively).
Creatures may want to dare themselves, to use design less and less as a show of health or bravado, but at some point, they will always be glad it ("design") is there - even if the creature has to capitulate to the design of a more successful male, in order to maintain what design they have.
